Team Rector - Eccleston Team
We are looking for a talented priest to lead a team of four parishes in a delightful part of St Helens. The Rector will need to encourage all to build a vision for the team. The four parishes in the team are starting to work together and this work needs to continue and grow. There is a great willingness to do this. The churches are evangelical in tradition.
The clergy in the team have specific responsibility for a parish and the Rector would have particular care for St James with St Matthew - a strong parish with a reordered building and good local links.
There is a well-appointed and maintained vicarage available for the Rector.
Applications Close - 28th February 2018
Interviews - 21st March 2018
We have four diverse parishes in the Eccleston Team united by a desire to work together and be part of a new vision for their future mission. St John Ravenhead, St Luke’s Eccleston, Christ Church, Eccleston and St James with St Matthew each have deep roots and proud histories. They are located in an area of St Helens that combines picturesque parks, a mix of housing stock with good leisure and retail facilities close at hand. Knowsley Safari Park is within the team’s area.
The traditional industrial town of St Helens has a strong community feel. It has good links to the road and rail network and the area is in easy reach of the Lake District, North Wales and boundless other delights across the North West.
The Eccleston Team is a strong Christian presence in St Helens with a good mix of faithful inherited church, fresh expressions and other outreach. The Team has elements of joint working and services so this is an exciting time to join and lead a full complement of clergy ready to work together. The Rector will find support for their ministry and an opportunity to develop outreach supported by a prayerful base.
There are many challenges but a strong desire to work together to serve the community and build a bigger church making a bigger difference in the local community.
The team is looking for a priest who will:
- be a leader who encourages the gifts of others
- have a pastoral heart
- be an ambassador to the wider community
- build relationships and networks
- be open to the Holy Spirit and grounded in Scripture
- communicate to young and old
- be committed to schools and community work

For many years we have been working to achieve growth in our diocese. We have used different ways to express this but the aim and direction of travel has remained the same. When Bishop Paul was installed he adopted our growth agenda refreshing it by saying ‘we are asking God for a bigger church so we can make a bigger difference; more people knowing Jesus more justice in the world’ This is how we express our mission. This makes us an exciting, challenging and rewarding place to be. We are innovative, seeking new ways to further God’s mission while respecting cherished traditions. We value our priests and all those working to build a bigger church making a bigger difference offering a high level of accountability with a low level of control. We are committed to equal opportunities and look forward to welcome all to our diocese.
