About Us

Rochdale is a diverse deanery with a significant and growing Muslim community, mainly in the parishes close to the town of Rochdale, and an increasing number of people from various Eastern European countries. The town is the home of the Co-operative movement and the ‘Rochdale Principles’ of 1844 established the principles on which co-operatives around the world operate today.

There are twenty parishes in the deanery, served at present by ten FTE stipendiary priests alongside  other ordained and lay ministers. The mix of mission and witness in town centre, urban and suburban communities, deprived estates and rural villages make this a particularly interesting deanery to be part of.

The central churches are being formed into a team and the new Priest in Charge will be instrumental in this development. There is also work being done to bid for Strategic Development Funding from the Church Commissioners to establish a Church Army Centre of Mission in Rochdale and possible Resource Church/church-planting.
