Ministry Development Administrator


The Diocese of Leeds wishes to appoint a Ministry Development Administrator to provide administration support for the School of Ministry Hubs and the Church Growth team.

The successful candidate will assist the Principals and core staff in administrating the teaching programmes of the School of Ministry Hubs and undertake projects/research to maintain and develop the Hubs. The administrator will assist students and tutors with the use of Moodle and maintain and develop the appropriate web pages.

The successful candidate should have the ability to innovate, initiate and maintain good and effective administration procedures whilst being able to work both independently and collaboratively and participate as part of the wider office team.

Role Responsibility

School of Ministry hub administration

  • To assist the School of Ministry Principals and core staff in administrating the teaching/tutorial programmes of the School of Ministry Hubs, by providing general secretarial support to the Principal and Hubs (photocopying, mailings, dealing with telephone messages and emails etc.)
  • To communicate on a regular basis with site partners and administration at all four Hubs and the YTEP administrator.
  • To provide word processing services, produce handouts and leaflets.
  • To maintain student records, electronic databases and material for the website.
  • Undertake projects/research to maintain and develop the hubs.
  • To provide administrative back up on School of Ministry Study Days including Sundays (monthly 11x p/a ex August) and weekday evenings (term time only, occasional).
  • Assist students remotely with Moodle and registration issues as referred by the YTEP co-ordinator.
  • To be proactive in the above arrangements about ensuring that people with disabilities are able to participate fully.
  • To able to handle all matters related to the use of the YTEP and Common Awards Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle), including setting up modules users.
  • To be available to students and tutors to assist with queries about accessing and using Moodle when tutors are not available. 
  • To populate and support tutors and Mission and Ministry Officers in creating content and populating the digital learning platform (Moodle).
  • To maintain records of Leeds Diocese students, including Registration, reporting of marking (including suspensions from modules, deferrals of assessments etc.) for Examination Boards, communicating with the YTEP Coordinator and administrator.
  • Attend monthly School of Ministry meetings, administrating and them and taking minutes.
  • Liaise with the Safeguarding team to ensure all students are DBS’d as they enroll.

    Church Growth

  • Maintain the Church Growth pages on the Diocesan website.
  • Manage and maintain the Church Growth social media platforms.
  • Administer the Evangelism Task Group: produce agendas, take minutes of meetings and send out emails.
  • Find and publish good news stories about Church Growth in the Diocese on the Diocesan website.
  • Provide general secretarial support to the Bishops Advisor for Church Growth.
  • Attend monthly Church Growth team meetings.


  • Welcoming all visitors in a friendly, approachable and professional manner and ensuring they sign in and out of the building.
  • Offering hospitality to visitors.
  • Dealing with enquiries over the telephone and at the reception.
  • Sorting all incoming post and scanning and forwarding documents to the correct recipient, using the document management system where appropriate.
  • Dealing with outgoing correspondence, franking when necessary.
  • Ensure a thorough handover with others working on Reception.
  • Keeping working space, the diocesan office and storage areas neat and tidy, complying with Health and Safety regulations.

The Ideal Candidate


Skills, Knowledge and Aptitudes

  • Good word processing skills
  • Good IT skills and competent in the use of Microsoft Office, in particular Outlook, Word, Excel and Publisher.
  • Ability to innovate, initiate and maintain good and effective administrative procedures.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and participate as part of the wider office team.
  • Ability to manage a varied work load efficiently and flexibly to prioritise tasks in order to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) with people at all levels, both inside and outside the organisation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues and other contacts.
  • Good skills in presentation, layout and accuracy in text production.

Qualifications, Training and Experience

  • 5 GSCE’s (or equivalent) including English and Maths at grade C or above

Special Requirements

  • Be able to attend weekend events where required.
  • Be able to travel to each of the hubs, including at weekends and in the evenings.
  • Be willing to learn how to administer the on-line Virtual Learning Environment, Moodle, following training.

The Diocese of Leeds came into existence at Easter 2014 following the dissolution of the former dioceses of BradfordRipon & Leeds, and Wakefield.  It covers the whole of West Yorkshire, the western part of North Yorkshire, and small parts of South Yorkshire, Lancashire, and County Durham.  The diocese has 656 church buildings.
