We are looking for a colleague with a heart for mission to come and join us in the Halifax Deanery. This new shared post is for someone to spend half their time as Deanery Missioner and the other half of their time as Associate Vicar of Siddal. There is an excellent modern vicarage situated in Siddal, which is within walking distance of St Marks and with good transport links to the rest of Halifax with good motorway links also to Manchester and Leeds via the M62.

We are looking for a mission-focussed priest with a passion for growing the church and helping existing disciples to deepen their faith.

In the Deanery we are looking for someone who will support parishes in:

  • Outreach to children and young people
  • Working with refugees and asylum seekers
  • Developing sustainable worshipping Fresh Expressions of Church and the development of further missional communities.

Part of the work will involve supporting the “Saturday Gatherings” which are an ecumenical Fresh Expression of Church run from the Gathering Place in the Town Centre and at St Hilda’s Halifax and working with ecumenical colleagues to support these.

In the Parish we are looking for someone who can:

  • Deepen the faith of the inherited community through worship and Bible study
  • Strengthen work with families and children through work with schools, the development of Messy Church and work with the Uniformed Organisations
  • Be a civic and faith leader in the village providing public leadership rather than being a chaplain to the congregation
  • Develop the parish and church building for the future so as to move from maintenance to mission

The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively building up the lay leadership of St Marks with the Vicar (Canon Hilary Barber), who is also Vicar of Halifax Minster), the PCC, the Reader, Reader in Training and others Training for Lay Ministry. He/she will also be part of the Minster Team, which offers collegiality and support.

Our new vicar will be:

  • Able to challenge parishes in Halifax to forge ever stronger links with the communities in which they live, work and pray
  • Confident in leading worship both formal and informal
  • Strongly committed to growth, to making new disciples and building up the faith of the existing congregation at Siddal
  • Experienced in working with young families and children
  • Committed to working collaboratively and ecumenically
