Vicar of Lostock Hall St James & Farington Moss St Paul

This job has now expired
Lostock Hall

This joint benefice with two churches serving large commuter villages between Preston and Leyland requires an energetic and prayerful Vicar who can bring a strong focus on growth in breadth and numbers. A period of interim incumbency has left the benefice in a much healthier position and the ideal candidate would continue and enhance a still fragile process of growing healthier churches.

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop the spiritual life of these two central tradition parishes and foster greater depth in prayer and faith
  • Implement Vision 2026 across the benefice by developing an Action Plan intended to sustain recent numerical growth
  • Pay close attention to the administrative and financial health of the benefice
  • Discern and develop lay leadership in both churches and enable the whole people of God to live out their baptismal vocation
  • Devise strategies for building a Church presence in the large areas of new housing being constructed within the boundaries of the Parish
  • Work closely with the Church school and support the churches in developing their ministry to the young
  • Work with the significant fringe around both churches and build strong relationships with people and groups beyond the church across both communities

The Benefice seeks a priest who:

  • Has a strong and disciplined life of prayer and believes in the power of prayer to change lives
  • Has a clear understanding of the approaches and strategies that lead to growth in depth, numbers and generosity and a track record in implementing them
  • Has good social skills and understands the value of a ministry of presence
  • Can unlock gifts and potential in others and is able to build teams to develop areas of ministry
  • Is willing to play a full part in the life of the Deanery and Diocese
  • Can engage with people of all ages and is happy in the school environment
  • Is unafraid of hard work
