Purpose of the role:
The aim of this post is to build up the relationship between Wigan Deanery South Hub and its four Church of England Schools. Our vision is to see greater engagement between church and school communities. This role is primarily focused on building up the interactive relationships between church members and schools, with the wider aim of giving children and families the opportunity to flourish in the Christian faith.

Priority of Purpose:
The prioritisation and development of the following tasks will be worked out with Hub Leadership:
1. Intentionally building lay teams to maximise the church/school connections
Direct engagement with pupils in school, for example:
Provide responsive pastoral support to pupils and families (inc. school gate).
2. Undertaking active roles in schools on behalf of the South Hub
School Governing Bodies
3. Co-ordinating South Hub’s clergy and lay activities with the schools
4. Encourage the establishment and growth of Worship Communities within schools.
The main responsibilities will involve:
The Primary Schools Worker is responsible to the South Hub Leader. Electronic diary sharing will be an essential element of the accountability relationship.
The post-holder will work closely and collaboratively with the Hub Leader, the Associate Hub Leader, Local Missional Leaders and the Heads of each school. In addition attendance at some South Hub Leadership Team meetings will be necessary to keep the team up to date with work progress and any issues arising.

The Deanery is engaged in a 7-year strategic development project of the Church of England called ‘Transforming Wigan’ with the key objective of turning around the mission and financial strength of the Deanery of Wigan. The Deanery Vision, adopted in 2015, is to enable one in ten people in Wigan to be on the journey of discipleship with Jesus by 2022. The mission strategy is to make and grow disciples of Jesus in many Worship Communities led and nurtured in seven Parish-hubs together forming one Church Wigan.
The South Parish-hub covers the historic parishes of St Thomas’, Ashton in Makerfield; St Peter’s, Bryn; Holy Trinity, Downall Green; and St Aidan’s, Billinge. Each parish has a Church of England foundation school.
