Lambeth Palace is a unique building of significant historical and global provenance. It is, first and foremost, the home of the Archbishop of Canterbury and his family, as well as home to a wider, diverse and thriving residential community. It is also an office and the epicentre of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s ministry to the Church of England and the global Anglican Communion. It is a Grade I listed building comprising various listed buildings dating from the 12th to the 20th centuries, set within 10 acres of beautiful landscaped gardens. Fundamentally, the Palace seeks to be a place of contribution to the life of a 21st century church.

In support of the Archbishop’s ministry, the office at Lambeth Palace is made up of several interconnected teams, including Anglican Communion, Chaplaincy, Communications, Correspondence, Ecumenical, Evangelism & Witness, Events, Inter-Religious Affairs, Social and Public Affairs and Reconciliation - each providing pivotal, interdependent and essential support to the Archbishop to enable the effective delivery of the ministry to which he has been called by God.

Fixed term contract expected to last for 2 years

The Archbishop of Canterbury’s Anglican Communion Fund (ACF) is a registered charity established some twenty years ago to enable the Archbishop of Canterbury to mobilise support for the work of the churches of the Anglican Communion around the world. The Fund supports ministry programmes throughout the 40 provinces of the Anglican Communion as well as funding Anglican Representation at key global platforms.

This is an excellent opportunity for a competent and professional Administrative Assistant to contribute to the Archbishop of Canterbury’s ministry to the global Anglican church by providing support to the Chief Executive Officer of the ACF to enable the smooth running of the grant cycle, donor cultivation and management process. Duties will also include coordinating meetings and communications.

Working proactively and flexibly, you will bring your skills and experience to the team, ensuring that priorities are managed in a calm and efficient manner.

The Role :

  • Administer the grant cycle, coordinating the application, approval, reporting and payment process.
    • Receive and acknowledge all applications and maintain all paper and electronic records.
    • Organise and disseminate grant approval paperwork.
    • Manage the grant payment process, liaising with the Treasurer and other signatories of the ACF.
    • Manage the grant reporting process, ensuring the timeliness of reports and following up on outstanding reports.
  • Support the CEO in donor/prospect cultivation, including disseminating communications both in print and digitally and coordinating events.
  • Administer the donor and prospect database in compliance with GDPR legislation.
  • Operate gift administration system (including accurately recording gifts, thanking donors, claiming Gift Aid, etc.) keeping accurate records and providing excellent customer service to donors.
  • Support the CEO with coordination of meetings of the Management Committee and Trustees, including diarising and room booking, and preparation of papers as requested. Attend and minute meetings.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as requested and commensurate with the role.

The requirements for the Role:



  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially MS Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Strong organisational and record keeping skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and strong attention to detail and professionalism.
  • Substantial experience in a fast paced administrative role.
  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritise and multitask.
  • Comfortable with technology, software and apps (eg. MailChimp) and ability and willingness to learn new systems.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
