This job has now expired
All Saints, Breadsall

We are seeking a Priest in Charge to join us in our three parishes of Breadsall, Morley and Smalley, situated just north of Derby. The area offers easy access to the beautiful Peak District, as well as excellent national transport links.

We are family-minded churches, open to worship of a wide range of traditions, and look forward to offering a caring and supportive welcome to our new incumbent.

Interview Date: Tuesday 11th December

As Area Deans, we want to see all three parishes working together for mission. We are looking for a parish priest who will enable working together, mission and outreach to three communities in Derbyshire, and who will contribute to the life of the Diocese. We do not expect the priest to attend every Chapter and Synod of both deaneries, but are committed to ensuring that whoever is appointed is properly supported

Our Visions and Values

  • To know God’s love through worship and service, and to welcome others into the community of that love.
  • Bound together by an awareness of God’s love for us, our common passion and purpose is to make that love known to the wider community which we serve.
  • Central to our life together are worship, prayer, bible study and the sacraments.
  • We have beautiful, well-maintained historic buildings which facilitate our worship and mission.

Our mission is expressed in a number of ways:-

  • Through opportunities to engage with people who come to the church for weddings, baptisms and funerals.
  • We encourage fellowship and understanding through corporate events and personal outreach, building relationships with the villages and wider communities.
  • Through our work with children, involvement with the schools and other groups enabling them to become part of the church both now and as its hope for the future.
  • In all this we remain open to God’s call, living His vision for our churches.

We are now looking for someone who:

  • Appreciates village life, especially the mission opportunities offered by occasional offices and the annual round of social events.
  • Welcomes the opportunity to work with a supportive team of lay ministers, respecting traditions whilst being innovative and forward looking.
  • Is able to identify, appreciate and nurture the gifts of others, of all ages, to lead and draw us all together with a sense of humour, in following God’s calling.
  • Has commitment and drive for our children’s and youth work.
  • Is confident in their faith with an ability and desire to communicate it to others.

Breadsall lies in a small valley just north of the Derby city boundary in the district of Erewash, within easy reach of the beautiful Peak District and with excellent transport links via road and rail.

The village consists of houses ranging in date from the 16th century to the present time with a population of approximately 700, but the parish boundary includes an area known as ‘Breadsall Hill Top’ increasing the population to over 1000. There are also plans to build over 200 new houses in the parish in the near future. Many Church members live in the nearby residential estate of Oakwood. On the outskirts of the village is Breadsall Priory, which was the site of a 13th century Augustine Priory. It is now a hotel and golf course
