We’re looking for a dynamic and experienced manager to oversee the operational side of our busy church and centre and join with us to help fulfil our exciting vision to be a beacon of hope on Erdington’s high street.

A strategic thinker with an eye for detail and excellent organisational and interpersonal skills – these are the qualities our Operations Manager will need, along with enthusiasm and the ability to lead and build a small team of staff and volunteers. Building and facilities management and development of our room hire operation are key areas of the role with a focus on making sure our activities are environmentally and financially sustainable for the future, along with creating a welcoming and safe environment for all church centre users. 1.Purpose of Role
Working within the overall vision of the church, the key purpose of the Operations Manager is to:
a) take a lead on all operational matters for St Barnabas church centre in line with our vision;
b) develop a strategy to enable all aspects of what we do to be more environmentally and financially sustainable for the future;
c) create a welcoming and safe environment for all church centre users;
d) oversee and develop a staff and volunteer team to assist in this task.


2.Key Responsibilities
Vision and Strategy
a) Work with the Vicar, Parochial Church Council (PCC) and Church Centre’s staff to deliver the church’s vision, taking a lead on delivering all operational related matters;
b) Take a strategic role in improving and developing all Church building infrastructure, fabric and fittings, including Curate Housing and the Churchyard Regeneration Project, enabling it to operate within our vision and values;
c) Work with the Church of England Birmingham Property team to ensure the Centre and all related property works towards the Net Zero Carbon target by 2030.

Operational and Church Management
a) Manage the day-to-day operations of the Church Centre in line with the values, standards and budget set by the PCC;
b) Lead on the planning and implementation of long-term operational plans in line with the strategic vision;
c) Manage external consultants and contractors to achieve planned outputs for programmes of routine and legislative maintenance work, term contracts and single capital projects;
d) Work with the Church’s leadership to ensure that all the finances are healthy and growing; developing appropriate stewardship and financial management strategies;
e) Work with budget holders to ensure budgets are well managed, ensuring that remedial action is taken where appropriate;
f) Take responsibility and have oversight of the Church’s room hire strategy;
g) Provide a facilities management function, overseeing the Church’s offices, room hire facilities, church space, churchyard, curate’s housing, etc;
h) Ensure best practice with regards to human resources policies, procedures and employment practices and data protection;
i) Ensure the effective and efficient development and delivery of IT and other systems of work ;
j) Be responsible for all building Health and Safety compliance and risk management;
k) Manage the recruitment, training and support of the church’s operations staff team and volunteers.

General Conditions
Salary: Probationary period: £30,500 pa; on completion of a 6 month probationary period £32,500 pa.
Pension Contributions: Auto enrolment Pension Scheme
Hours of Duty: The post is offered on a full-time basis working 37.5 hours per week and flexibility is required to be able to work the occasional Saturday (approx. 1 a month), evenings and bank holidays. Overtime is not paid but time off in lieu is provided. Lunch and other breaks are unpaid.
Annual Leave: The leave year runs from 1st January to 31st December, 28 days which includes Bank Holidays.
Contract: The employer is the PCC of St Barnabas Erdington. The post is permanent and subject to a six month probationary period.
