Interim Priest in Charge
(Part-time, 0.5 stipend and house)

The Parish of Fowey, Cornwall

Can you embrace a vision of welcome and generosity and help to nurture a community where people belong, meet Jesus and grow in faith? Would you like to do it in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, with support from a re-energised team of lay people and deanery colleagues who want to work collaboratively?

Opportunities like this are far and few between – a single parish benefice, a church at the heart of the community, ripe for growth and that sees itself as being at the start of a new adventure.

St Fimbarrus, Fowey has navigated some stormy seas of late but now finds itself in calm waters, with a clear direction of travel and full of hope. This appointment is to an interim part-time position as we seek someone to help with the important work of plotting a new course, further building the team, offering nurture and facilitating healing. The parish will also need help to discern if, how and when it can form part of a benefice with two neighbouring parishes, as envisaged in the deanery plan.

  • To further enable the work of healing, restoration and re-building within the church and beyond in the wider community;
  • To be involved in the wider community, making connections, building relationships and taking the church beyond the building; bringing healing and restoration;
  • To pastor, nurture, equip and enable the church so that members can be released to use their gifts, play their part and build Gods Kingdom;
  • To help the church discern the way ahead including in relation to the wider deanery and the deanery plan;

We seek a priest who is:

  • A leader open to and understanding of a range of views, comfortable with traditional and newer forms of worship;
  • A pastor who nurtures and develops lay people;
  • A reconciler who seeks to heal hurts, bring people together, build relationships and promote unity;
  • Able to engage with the missing generations, and connect with a range of groups in the community;
  • Full of grace and truth, inspirational, decisive and humble.
