Sherwood is a vibrant suburb about 1.5 miles from Nottingham City Centre known for its impressive arts scene. People from other parts of Nottingham are drawn into Sherwood by its culturally diverse restaurants, boutique-style shops, pubs, Saturday craft fairs and specialist vegan markets. There is a busy community centre incorporating a popular playgroup, dance school and a host of exercise classes and support groups. A newly built library will shortly be opening. There are two schools within the parish with whom a closer relationship is desired

The next vicar will be an inspirational leader who is comfortable leading and guiding able and committed leaders into a new season of numerical and spiritual growth enabling clear stepping stones on the pathway to faith and thoughtful discipleship for people of all ages.

The parish and diocese are looking to appoint a leader who will be:

  • Confident in sharing the Gospel with others and able to teach, train and encourage us to share their own stories of faith in Jesus Christ.
  • A prayerful person who is able to steer our church decisively to grow in our faith whilst looking outward to meet the practical and spiritual needs of our Parish.
  • Ready to work with the PCC and our excellent Treasurer to build towards a sustainable financial strategy, ultimately supporting full ministry costs.
  • Able to discern and encourage other people’s God-given gifts, and support younger church members in particular to use those gifts in leadership roles.
  • Able to teach the Word of God in a challenging way that is relevant to life today.
  • Welcoming and inclusive of all who come to St Martin’s whilst maintaining Biblical and theological integrity.
  • Committed to worshipping God and ready to embrace and develop different styles of worship.
  • A compassionate and empathetic person who will be part of our church leadership team and family, and who will enable us to be more effectively involved with organisations in our community, including businesses, schools, prison and community groups.
