We are a multicultural congregation situated in the superdiverse area of Graiseley in inner city Wolverhampton. Our church has seen significant numerical growth in recent years as we have consciously focussed on our mission to our diverse local context. As a church we have become both younger and more ethnically diverse with a large proportion of our congregation from global heritage backgrounds.

Salary: £35,000 pro rata (£18,000 pa)
Hours: 18 hours a week

We have received funding from the Church of England Innovation Fund to develop a programme called ‘All God’s People’ that seeks to develop participation, models of discipleship and leadership within our church that reflects the cultural diversity of our community. The theological underpinning behind this is Revd Dr Martin Luther King’s understanding of the Kingdom of God as ‘Beloved community’ alongside a worship style that is Eucharistic and a strongly Inclusive and Affirming Church ethos.

This role funded for three years will seek to help develop this programme in two ways:

  • Musically – through the development of the music in our worship that draws upon a diverse range of cultures and styles and encourages a diversity of approaches within the context both of our existing strongly Eucharistic practice and through additional worship initiatives as appropriate.
  • Celebratory Events – Co-ordinating and facilitating regular celebratory events throughout the year that draw upon the diverse cultures within our congregation giving people an opportunity to share their culture and to experience the culture of others and also invite people beyond the church to experience our celebratory and inclusive approach to the gospel.

We are looking for a committed and passionate individual who shares our vision for an inclusive and diverse church community. If you are excited about the opportunity to help develop this programme, we encourage you to apply.

Further details of the post and the All God’s People Project can be found and downloaded at our church website

After consulting the details If you would like an informal conversation about the post with the Vicar of St Chad’s & St Mark’s before deciding whether or not to apply please email Ray Gaston to arrange.

About the Diocese

Lichfield Diocese is one of the most diverse dioceses in the country. Rolling countryside and vibrant inner-city life nestle together in a region that takes in Staffordshire, the Potteries of Stoke-on-Trent, most of Shropshire and bustling Black Country centres including Walsall and Wolverhampton. The only thing we don’t have is the sea!

Our shared diocesan vision extends an invitation to all to “Come follow Christ in the footsteps of St Chad”.

As we follow Christ in the footsteps of St Chad, we pray that the two million people in our diocese encounter a church that is confident in the gospel, knows and loves its communities, and is excited to find God at work already in the world. We pray for a church that reflects the richness and variety of those communities and partners with others in seeking the common good, working for justice as a people of hope.
