Burton Upon Trent
Office Holder

The two parishes of S. Aidan’s with S. Paul’s Burton and S. John the Divine Horninglow are in the Tutbury Deanery in the Diocese of Lichfield. The deanery is the easternmost in the Diocese of Lichfield. It is geographically diverse. It contains the part of the town of Burton upon Trent to the north of the river.

Something new is brewing in Burton upon Trent.

Following the recent retirement of the vicar of S.John’s Horninglow who was also latterly the Priest in charge of S.Paul’s, we seek to appoint a priest who will become vicar of the newly formed combined benefice subject to completion of the pastoral reorganisation. This is an opportunity for someone to drive forward the opportunities of the new benefice and address the challenges and issues facing the two urban parishes in the current social, cultural, and religious environment.

We are looking for an experienced Priest who will:

  • Lead inspiring eucharistic worship in churches with long standing Anglo Catholic traditions.
  • Be forward thinking and willing to embrace missional innovation, and able to join us in growing the congregations, especially from the new housing area.
  • Be an inspiring teacher and have experience building existing links with schools.
  • Help us to develop joint ministry and mission across the two parishes.
  • Foster sharing expertise between the parishes on the use of new media.
  • Build on the youth and community work at Red Lion House to expand or missional reach.

We will offer spiritual support through our prayers and practical support by continuing lay involvement and leadership, and a warm welcome. We will respect days off and holidays.

About the Diocese

Lichfield Diocese is one of the most diverse dioceses in the country. Rolling countryside and vibrant inner-city life nestle together in a region that takes in Staffordshire, the Potteries of Stoke-on-Trent, most of Shropshire and bustling Black Country centres including Walsall and Wolverhampton. The only thing we don’t have is the sea!

Our shared diocesan vision extends an invitation to all to “Come follow Christ in the footsteps of St Chad”.

As we follow Christ in the footsteps of St Chad, we pray that the two million people in our diocese encounter a church that is confident in the gospel, knows and loves its communities, and is excited to find God at work already in the world. We pray for a church that reflects the richness and variety of those communities and partners with others in seeking the common good, working for justice as a people of hope.
