The post holder would be joining a small team based at Bishop’s House Coventry which supports the Bishop of Coventry in his ministry.

The main responsibilities for this role are:

Cleaning of Bishop’s House office and public areas and other household duties as required.

The following in an indicative but not exhaustive list of duties:

Daily

  • To vacuum all rooms and corridors on the ground floor and the main staircase and landing of Bishop’s House
  • To dust and polish skirting boards, desks and bookshelves
  • To clean and disinfect the public and staff toilets, clean sinks, taps and surfaces
  • Mop floors in toilets, kitchens and porch
  • To empty bins in kitchens, toilets and offices

Weekly

  • To change and launder towels and tea towels
  • To launder and iron tablecloths
  • To monitor domestic cleaning supplies/toilet rolls/ hand towels and inform the Bishop’s Administrative and Finance Assistant of requirements
  • Cleaning of catering kitchen
  • To clean mirrors, skirting boards, doors and other woodwork as necessary
  • Cleaning of two bathrooms and kitchen in the upstairs accommodation

Monthly or occasional task

  • Polishing of glasses and cutlery as necessary
  • Washing up by hand and loading/unloading of dishwasher in catering kitchen as necessary as required
  • Occasional cleaning and laundry for guest accommodation
  • Cleaning chandeliers and other light fittings, including replacing light bulbs when required
  • Removal of carpet/ upholstery stains where possible
  • Generally attending to cleanliness of house and reporting any damages
  • Other tasks required by the Bishop’s wife when she is undertaking official hospitality.

The ideal candidate must have:

Essential

  • Previous experience of cleaning, either commercially or in domestic premises
  • Familiarity with cleaning chemicals and their appropriate storage and disposal
  • The ability to maintain absolute confidentiality
  • Good time management
  • The ability to work on own initiative
  • Flexibility to change cleaning schedules according to business needs.

Desirable

  • Sympathy towards the life and works of the Church of England and ability to share in the ethos of the Bishop’s office and Household.

Non-clergy staff will be automatically enrolled into the in the Pension Builder 2014 Pension Plan (PB2014) in line with legislation unless they choose to opt out. Clergy already in the Church of England Funded Pensions Scheme (CEFPS) will have the option of either remaining in this scheme or joining the CAPF scheme.

Bishops Staff have an income protection insurance arrangement. To be eligible for cover under this policy an employee must be a member of the (PB2014) scheme. Please note that insurance cover is not necessarily automatic and that underwriting may be required by the schemes in some instances (for example if you do not join the scheme at the first available opportunity or opt out of the scheme and subsequently re-join). Cover will be subject to any terms and conditions laid down by the insurance company.
