The Parish of Wednesfield is an urban area in the eastern part of the City of Wolverhampton. It covers an area of 3½ square miles and has a population of about 30,000. It is a Team Ministry with two churches, St Thomas’ in the town centre, and St Alban’s on a 1950s/60s estate to the North East. We are looking for a full-time Team Rector, based at, and primarily responsible for, St Thomas’ Church.
The Benefice includes the Parish Church of St Thomas’ and the district Church of St Alban and is located 3.5 miles North East of Wolverhampton city centre. The postholder will have dedicated responsibility at St Thomas’ and overall responsibility for the Benefice. The Black Country town of Wednesfield has a strong local identity and this role will suit applicants who relish the opportunities of town centre ministry and are naturally orientated towards outward facing, community focussed mission.
We are looking for an experienced Priest who:
The Rectory is a double-fronted, detached 1920’s house, 4 minutes’ walk from church, with 4 bedrooms, a garage and a pleasant garden.
About the Diocese
Lichfield Diocese is one of the most diverse dioceses in the country. Rolling countryside and vibrant inner-city life nestle together in a region that takes in Staffordshire, the Potteries of Stoke-on-Trent, most of Shropshire and bustling Black Country centres including Walsall and Wolverhampton. The only thing we don’t have is the sea!
Our shared diocesan vision extends an invitation to all to “Come follow Christ in the footsteps of St Chad”.
As we follow Christ in the footsteps of St Chad, we pray that the two million people in our diocese encounter a church that is confident in the gospel, knows and loves its communities, and is excited to find God at work already in the world. We pray for a church that reflects the richness and variety of those communities and partners with others in seeking the common good, working for justice as a people of hope.
