We are looking to appoint someone who is going to raise the profile of Bradford Cathedral and help us to reach out to the community and diocese.

This new post bringing together three key aspects of the outreach of the cathedral as well as an important role in the internal communication. The role will work within and towards the Vision, Values and Strategy of the Cathedral. Both the Communications and Marketing functions will require an initial review and then a developed strategy. The Event management will start immediately as the Cathedral has a significant programme for its Centenary year in 2019. It will require a highly responsible individual who is a self starter but also a team player. This post will need to work with the different teams within the Cathedral as well as with key external stakeholders like Diocesan and AEC Communications departments.

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement a Marketing & Communication strategy to help the Cathedral achieve its strategic objectives.
  • Support and guide key internal stakeholders and stakeholder groups to help them achieve their key goals.
  • Track marketing and financial performance of activities to ensure the meeting of objectives.
  • Annual Communications and Marketing plans covering ‘real life’ and online activities.

Communications Delivery

  • Creation of annual marketing & communication plans to help the Cathedral achieve its strategic objectives. This includes working with sub-groups within the Cathedral like Artspace, Cathedral Friends and Community Committee.
  • Support the Chief operating Officer and the Dean in delivering agreed marketing and communication activities to internal and external stakeholders. This will include communication with our congregation via the Annual Cathedral Report, Christmas cards and communication of job vacancies.
  • Write and proofread copy for both internal and external communication campaigns (print and online).
  • Produce creative content, including videos and blog posts for use on the Cathedral’s social media and digital channels.

Marketing Delivery

  • Conduct regular market research to help the Cathedral understand visitor behaviour and measure visitor numbers. This will involve working closely with the Director of Educations and Visitors.
  • Suggest and implement methods of improving the visitor experience at the Cathedral or its events. This will involve working closely with the Director of Educations and Visitors.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders both internal and external e.g. the Association of English Cathedrals, the Diocese, sister cathedrals and the civic community in Bradford.
  • Arrange the effective distribution of marketing and promotional materials externally and internally.This will include working with the Verger Team and some of the Cathedral’s community groups.

Qualifications

  • Education to higher education level (E)
  • Evidence of appropriate ongoing training (D)
  • A relevant qualification for Communications, Marketing and Event management (e.g. CIM Dip Level 6 or above (E)

Experience

  • Evidence of working in Communications, Marketing and Events business (E)

Currently, Bradford is undergoing significant regeneration, which is changing the feel of the City. A new shopping centre, ‘Broadway’ has opened right next to the Cathedral with Marks and Spencer being just outside the State Gate. In addition there are some magnificent Grade 1 listed 19th century buildings in the City, including City Hall, which has just had a facelift. Next to City Hall is a new public space, City Park, with water and lighting features. It is used for concerts throughout the year. It is also anticipated that there will be a new 4000 seater concert hall in the city centre by 2020.

Bradford University has over 150 nationalities studying and is renowned for its research and having one of the most outstanding Schools of Management in the world. Bradford College, David Hockney’s alma mater, has recently been completely rebuilt. Bradford is a UNESCO City of Film and is the home of the National Science and Media Museum. The groundbreaking Bradford Literature Festival was launched to great acclaim in 2016 and has rapidly developed a national reputation for cutting edge seminars. The Cathedral is one of the host venues.
