Team Vicar for St Andrews Over Hulton And Priest-in-Charge: St Bede’s, Bolton-le-Moors

St Andrew’s Over Hulton and St Bede’s, Bolton-le-Moors both lie within the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton. The borough has lots to offer from museums jam-packed with ancient artefacts to breath-taking countryside and everything else in between, award-winning attractions, behind the scenes tours, fast-paced sport and leisurely country walks.

This is an exciting time in the life of the Churches of St Andrew’s and St Bede’s as we embark together on a new journey of joint ministry. Both Church communities share an evangelical tradition and a heart for our local communities, neighbours and friends, to hear and receive the good news of Jesus and grow in their own journey of faith. We share close links with our respective Church of England primary schools as well as the two CE high schools in Bolton. We have desire to service, love and inspire through the love of Jesus.

We are seeking a Team Vicar/Priest-in-Charge who:

  • has a Christian faith which is vibrant, robust and deeply rooted in Christ.
  • is willing, able and eager to share leadership
  • is gifted in making disciples and enabling us to do the same.
  • is creative and collaborative, who will enable new and exciting ways of being Church in the neighbourhood.
  • has experience of ministry within a wide school age setting

To build up the faith of the two Church communities by:

  • To nurture lay and ordained leadership.
  • To encourage and facilitate mission and outreach into the local communities building teams to actively engage in existing and fresh ways.
  • To develop an environment where the gifts and talents of children and young people are utilised within the church and community.
  • To maintain and develop links with St Bede’s academy, St Andrew’s school, Canon Slade and St James, Farnworth, releasing others to develop the links with these schools.
  • To work collaboratively across the two churches to enable closer worship and working relationships.
  • To work with clergy and lay leaders to establish collaborative mission and ministry in the Mission Partnership across Deane, Lostock, Morris Green and Over Hulton.

As part of the “Fit for Mission,” strategy, the Diocese encourages a flexible model of working within Deaneries, in which parishes and other expressions of church are organised for mission in a variety of ‘units’ appropriate to their context and circumstances, with an emphasis on PARTNERSHIP. As part of this process Deane Deanery has been chosen as one of four pilot deanery’s to begin this process as we look for ways to enable churches to take risks, to reflect on how we can do things differently moving into the future.

The Deanery of Deane is currently in the process of developing a new Deanery Mission Action Plan which will take into account individual Parish Mission Action Plans, but will also include a review of our resources; in particular, the deployment of clergy, readers and authorised ministers and our buildings.

The parishes of the Deane Team (St Mary the Virgin, Deane and St Andrew, Over Hulton), St Thomas and St John, Lostock, and St Bede, Morris Green, work together as a Mission Partnership and this is an important partnership in the missional activity of the Deanery as a whole. This is an exciting time to join the Deanery as these working partnerships are developing more closely.

Deane Deanery needs someone to join the Deanery Team who is able to work with an Upward focus; God centred. Inward focus; developing and releasing all member ministry and an Outward focus; with a realisation of the great opportunities and great needs of the area and willing to push the churches to be mindful of both the great commandment and the great commission as imperatives, in order to ensure that we have a worshipping, growing and transformative Christian presence at the heart of every community.
