We are looking for a priest for St James, Milton who is a servant leader, committed to
working collaboratively, and is approachable, open and creative in
their approach to Christian discipleship and spiritual growth.

St James is a vibrant community, deeply rooted in its local community.
Many local families have connected to our increasingly diverse church family over the years.

Our worship centres around the mass, with a committed choir and serving team, celebrated with dignity and as a pastoral space in which people can come before God.

The role is for a priest who will lead, support and nurture the inhabitants of this diverse parish and build upon the vital engagement with the community, ensuring pastoral needs are met. It is
for an experienced leader who will carry significant oversight and strategic development responsibilities.

As our Vicar we are seeking someone who :

  • is able to share the fruits of their own discipleship with others
  • is comfortable leading and participating in the current diversity of our parish services, and will enrich them.
  • supports and encourages the ministry of lay people in leading services
  • is an effective delegator and decision maker
  • is approachable and sensitive to varied pastoral needs of our church
    family and wider community.

The Diocese of Portsmouth stretches across south-east Hampshire and includes the whole of the Isle of Wight. It has139 parishes, many diverse rural and urban communities and a wide range of churchmanship.

Bishop Jonathan Frost was installed in March 2022, and has shared his vision for the diocese – a place where all are invited into a life-enhancing encounter with Jesus Christ.

As part of the Diocesan vision and strategy the Portsmouth Deanery in which St James Milton sits, has a ‘plan’ which has evolved over a number of years and responds to changes of context and circumstance. At its heart is a vision of local Parishes developing strong relationships and sharing resources, gifts and skills in the service of God and the community.
