The Diocese of London comprises of c400 parishes north of the River Thames and within the M25 motorway. The Church of England in London is vibrant, growing and is at the heart of communities throughout the city. The purpose of the London Diocesan Fund is to support this work, seeking to use our resources to facilitate the ministry of our parishes and chaplains who seek to serve four million people.

The finance/payroll assistant is responsible for running of a payroll function and some general accounting duties.

Operational

Payroll Services

• Process monthly payroll.
• Maintain payroll system with joiners / leavers and other monthly changes, issuing required forms to the Inland Revenue.
• Complete monthly Tax/NI returns to HMRC and Annual returns.
• Complete monthly Pension updates and invoice processing.
• Complete monthly Health Insurance updates and invoice processing.
• Complete monthly updates and processing of payroll deductions (AOE, GAYE and others).
• Complete payroll related General Ledger reconciliations.
• Maintain and update the payroll system.

Payroll Services – Other.

• Complete, maintain and update payroll projects for salary recovery.
• Monthly recovery of reclaims.
• Providing advice and support to staff on payroll matters.

Accounting/Finance.

• Invoice processing (AP and AR).
• Reconciliation of general/control ledger accounts .
• Assist with non-property related fixed asset register/depreciation posting.
• Assist with grants claims.

The post-holder may be required to undertake any other duties that are commensurate with the role.

Other responsibilities for the role.

• Other (eg signing authority rights).
• The post-holder will monitor submission of files to payroll system in respect of payroll.

Special conditions or working arrangements applicable to the role:

Flexibility as to how these 5 days per week will be allocated . The role requires flexible arrangement around payroll deadline.

General

Experience of working in a busy office environment Extensive knowledge of statutory payments and deductions, including SSP, SMP, Tax, NI, etc. Knowledge of charity sector pay and conditions Use of a computerised payroll system.

Specific

• Part qualified (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA or other relevant qualification).
• Knowledge of SDWorx payroll system and Xledger financial system would be beneficial.
• Good level of analytical skills.
• High level of skills using Microsoft Office.
• Self motivated and uses initiative.
• Attention to detail.
• Team player.

The LDF exists to support the mission of the Church of England in London. The principal activity of the London Diocesan Fund is to operationally and practically serve and support the parishes and people within the Diocese of London, enabling the vision that every Londoner will encounter the love of God in Jesus Christ.
