Birmingham Cathedral are looking for a Fundraising and Finance Support Officer to support with delivery of the Cathedral’s Fundraising strategy, raising funds to support particular projects and support the work of the finance department more generally.

Initially this role will focus on raising funds to support our Divine Beauty project – a project to conserve our four world-class stained-glass windows. https://birminghamcathedral.com/divine-beauty/

We have a warm database of trusts, existing supporters and opportunities with visitors to the cathedral to meet the fundraising target of £160k. We are seeking a colleague who can quickly engage with the project and seek appropriate sources of funding before and during the project.

Following the completion of the project you will support the wider team in identifying current and future projects and developing a fundraising approach.

  • Responsible for researching and identifying sources of funding from grants and foundations and keeping records updated
  • Responsible for drafting and submitting funding applications
  • Support the Welcome Manager and Comms team with our ‘donor ask’ for visitors
  • Work with the Diocesan Generous Giving programme to support the clergy team with engaging the congregation in regular giving
  • Identify opportunities for corporate sponsorship and work with Head of Commercial Events to build relationships
  • Support with developing a programme of regular communication and thanks to regular and one-off donors
  • Support the Head of Finance with record keeping, tracking project budgets and reporting to grant-givers
  • It is envisaged that you will spend roughly 5 hours per week supporting the broader work of the finance department (data entry, liaising with colleagues, general finance admin) and this work will be determined by the needs of the Head of Finance.
  • Be a confident advocate for specific projects and the work of the cathedral more generally.
  • Support with in-frequent out of hours events
  • Any other duties in support of the mission and ministry of the cathedral which Chapter deem appropriate.

Essential:

  • Excellent verbal and written communicator with an enthusiastic approach
  • Experience of dealing with customers/clients/visitors
  • A demonstrable ability to engage sensitively and appropriately with donors.
  • Willingness to ‘get stuck in’ to learn new processes and deliver as part of a team
  • Organised, methodical and with great attention to detail
  • In sympathy with the ethos of the Church of England and comfortable engaging with a worshipping community.

Desirable:

  • Some fundraising experience in either a paid or voluntary position would be welcomed. However, this can be viewed as an entry level fundraising role. We have some fundraising experience already within the team and this has the potential to be a developmental role for someone with the right approach and attitude
  • Experience in a finance admin role

We are an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. However, as those from global majority groups and those with a disability are currently under-represented in our staff team, we would particularly welcome applications from those groups.
