The growing evangelical Anglican church of St. Andrew’s, Mirehouse and the West Cumbria Evangelical Ministry Trust are looking to appoint a local church leader to the parish of St. Andrew’s.

The role provides significant responsibility to lead the church family across its congregations and ministries in conjunction with the Church PCC and wider mission community.

This full-time position is open to ordained or lay persons from different denominations who can subscribe to the West Cumbria Evangelical Ministry Trust statement of faith.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Gospel hearted and holds to the evangelical teaching of Scripture
  • Gifted in teaching the evangelical faith
  • Understands and can empathise with the issues of a large housing estate
  • Bold to facilitate a church plant in another part of the parish

We can provide a starting salary of £24,000 PA together with and a large, modern vicarage for residence.

This is an interesting role with a wide range of responsibilities, including: shepherding within the parish, preaching and training, developing community outreach, facilitating youth and children’s ministry, provision of pastoral care and engaging and developing church planting models.

The role will require the following:

  • Leading services with the worship team
  • Working with the PCC in the running of the church
  • Coordinating small group ministry
  • Working with clergy in wider Mission community and beyond
  • Preaching regularly in church and other settings
  • Leading and training small groups
  • Working with other community groups for the benefit of Mirehouse
  • Enabling the church to initiate and establish ministry “off-site”
  • Developing school links
  • Training youth/children teams
  • Organising events in conjunction with DNYC
  • Establishing a visiting team, leading prayer meetings
  • Overseeing funeral ministry
  • Baptisms/wedding ministry where appropriate
  • Praying for an unreached area of Mirehouse
  • Leading discussions with some church members on planting and visiting current church planting models.

  • Is Community minded
  • Able to facilitate / train the church to reach out to the community
  • Is interested and experienced in youth and children’s ministry
  • Can think strategically about coordinating pastoral care

The Parish is part of the Mirehouse housing estate located to the south of the Georgian town of Whitehaven. Whitehaven is a town and port on the coast of Cumbria, England. Historically, a part of Cumberland, which lies equidistant between Cumbria's two largest settlements, Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness, and is served by the Cumbrian Coast Line and the A595 road. It is the administrative centre of the Borough of Copeland. Located on the west coast of the county, outside the Lake District National Park, Whitehaven includes a number of former villages, estates and suburbs.
