Priest-in-Charge of Blackburn St Michael & All Angels with St John & Holy Trinity and St Thomas with St Jude

This job has now expired

We are seeking a wise, prayerful and loving priest for these two parishes with three small churches which serve an area with the highest Muslim percentage in the country. He will seek to grow the churches in line with Vison 2026 and in so doing work closely with other Presence and Engagement Parishes in Blackburn. Whilst the new priest in charge will have pastoral responsibility across all three churches, he will work with others to ensure that Sunday responsibilities are manageable. He will also play a part in re-imagining Christian Ministry across the northern part of the town as we seek to strengthen our presence and witness in these areas.

  • Pastoral care of the congregation of three churches: St Jude’s, St Michael’s and Holy Trinity
  • Growing existing congregations as disciples of Jesus Christ so that they can witness with great confidence
  • Developing close links with two Church of England Primary Schools and caring for the staff
  • Building warm, open and honest friendships with the local Muslim communities
  • Engaging closely with neighbouring parishes and with Blackburn Cathedral as we rethink Christian ministry in this part of town
  • Gaining maximum use from three small and well maintained church buildings
  • A priest in the Catholic tradition able to minister to St Michael’s and St Jude’s and flexible enough to meet the needs of the people of Holy Trinity which is more central Anglican. Both parishes have resolutions in place.
  • Experience of Islam and ministering in areas where many faiths are present
  • An understanding of Asian culture and the capacity to speak Urdu, Hindi or Gujarati would be very useful
  • The ability to minister to schools
