Wem, Lee Brockhurst and Weston under Redcastle, in the heart of North Shropshire
Office Holder

St. Peter & Paul’s Church, Wem, St. Peter’s Church, Lee Brockhurst and St. Luke’s Church, Weston-under-Redcastle are three lovely and thriving churches in rural North Shropshire; one in the centre of a market town and two centred in delightful small villages.

We welcome a young at heart and country loving candidate with leadership gifts, boundless energy and the vision:

  • To be an inspiring and welcoming leader;
  • To have the desire and determination to continue to knit together the three communities in faith, hope and love;
  • To communicate the Christian faith in a way that appeals to all sections of our expanding rural communities and inspire people of all ages;
  • To guide and encourage our worship, discipleship, pastoral care and outreach;
  • To help us to continue to nurture our link with our two schools, the townspeople, surrounding rural communities and beyond;
  • To help strengthen mission at a deanery level with the other 18 churches in our deanery;
  • To have a warm, friendly and effective style of communication, be an excellent listener, and possess a good sense of humour.

We hope our new incumbent will:

  • Be energetic and enthusiastic, with a sense of humour;
  • Encourage us towards a deeper understanding of our faith in Christ and its practical implications;
  • Work with us to accept the challenge of opening up to people of all ages, especially younger people, amongst our surrounding communities;
  • Help us develop a vision for our benefice which is imaginative, compassionate, forward-looking and inclusive.

About the Diocese

Lichfield Diocese is one of the most diverse dioceses in the country. Rolling countryside and vibrant inner-city life nestle together in a region that takes in Staffordshire, the Potteries of Stoke-on-Trent, most of Shropshire and bustling Black Country centres including Walsall and Wolverhampton. The only thing we don’t have is the sea!

Our shared diocesan vision extends an invitation to all to “Come follow Christ in the footsteps of St Chad”.

As we follow Christ in the footsteps of St Chad, we pray that the two million people in our diocese encounter a church that is confident in the gospel, knows and loves its communities, and is excited to find God at work already in the world. We pray for a church that reflects the richness and variety of those communities and partners with others in seeking the common good, working for justice as a people of hope.
