The vision of the Diocese of Chichester is to help people within the Diocese to know, love and follow Jesus. Based at the Diocesan Office at Church House, Hove, we serve the people of the Diocese across more than 360 parishes, more than 150 church schools and the wider community as a whole.

We wish to appoint an Assistant Diocesan Safeguarding Officer to work to work alongside the Deputy Diocesan Safeguarding Officer and the wider team to manage safeguarding casework, promote good practice in the protection of children and adults within the Diocese of Chichester and conduct all aspects of this work according to statutory and House of Bishop’s policy and guidance.

The principle duties of the roles are:

  • Working alongside the Deputy Diocesan Safeguarding Officer to manage safeguarding casework across the Diocese. This will involve working with senior members of the Clergy, public authorities, diocesan personnel, and parishes
  • Providing advice and direction to members of the clergy and parish officers on aspects of safeguarding practices
  • Supporting parishes during and after a safeguarding incident
  • Arranging risk assessments arising from DBS checks
  • Negotiation and monitoring the implementation of attendance agreements
  • Providing safeguarding training to clergy and parish officers

We seek a candidate who can demonstrate the following qualifications, experience, and skills:

  • An academic and/or professional qualification social or health care, Probation or Police
  • Experience of the operational context of child/adult protection work
  • Significant practical experience of risk assessment work
  • Solid commitment to the promotion of safeguarding children and adults through previous or current professional or voluntary activities
  • High standards of confidentiality
  • Self-motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic
  • The post holder is required to support the ethos, aims and objectives of the Diocese and the Church of England.

We are flexible regarding how and when the hours are spread within the working week and there will be the opportunity to apply to use the DBF’s remote working policy. Consideration will be given to working 21 hours per week for the right candidate.
