In March 2018, the Archbishop of Canterbury published Reimagining Britain: Foundations for Hope. Building on key chapters in the book, these two Archbishops’ Commissions were established in 2021 to look at how the Church responds to issues of national and civic concern and explore how it can generate fresh thinking and action.

This new post sits within the Commissions team that supports both the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in their work in the public square on these priority areas. Currently, these are the Reimagining Care Commission and the Families and Households Commission.

The work is set in the context of the priority areas of the Archbishops’ ministries, the three Quinquennium goals of the Church of England, and the five marks of mission in the Anglican Communion. Policy and research on these areas are carried out by the Mission and Public Affairs team (MPA) in Church House, so a crucial part of this role is coordination with colleagues in MPA.

As Commissions’ Executive Administrator, you will provide administrative, project and logistical support to the Reimagining Care Commission and the Families and Households Commission, making sure that Commission Chairs and Members receive a high quality and efficient service and experience.

You will work with the Archbishops’ Senior Policy Adviser for Commissions and the Archbishops’ Project Coordinator and Researcher to provide the full range of administrative and logistical support needed, including organising and facilitating in person and on-line meetings, liaising with Commission Members and stakeholders and monitoring and updating the budget for the Commissions.

This post is offered on a secondment/fixed term basis for 1 year.

We are taking a flexible approach to work, with many colleagues opting for a hybrid approach to their working week, with a mixture of home and office-based working. Further details will be discussed at interview.

The Role

  • To provide administrative support for all meetings and other events for the Commissions, and provide support to the Archbishops’ Senior Policy Adviser and the team’s other work as required.
  • To organise meetings of the Commission, including: booking meeting venues, liaising with Commission Members; circulating agendas and supporting papers; taking minutes; processing members’ and team expenses and invoices related to the Commission’s activities.
  • To provide some diary management to team members and the Chairs and Co-Chairs of the Commissions (booking internal and external meetings with Zoom/Microsoft Teams, rooms, administration support).
  • To communicate and liaise effectively with Commission Members and stakeholders.
  • To use the Microsoft Office suite of software to produce documents, including agenda and minutes for internal weekly meetings.
  • To monitor and update the budget for the Commissions and to use regular budget monitoring meetings to ensure the accurate tracking of costs and the early identification of possible issues.
  • To keep people-related data and all Commission information on our shared drive up-to-date and fully compliant with all GDPR and related requirements.
  • To comply with all office procedures and guidelines, including those concerning the use of IT, confidentiality and the protection/security of data.
  • To contribute to the achievement of any collective (team/office/organisational) objectives and undertake such other duties and tasks as may reasonably be required.
  • To undertake travel, have overnight stays in venues across the country and on occasion work outside of normal office hours to support the planning and delivery of events.
  • In coordination with the Records Officer, maintain an effective and secure records management system for the work of the Commissions, following the appropriate policies for this area.
  • Proactively review the administration of the Commissions portfolio and bring forward systems and processes to enable increased efficiency and effectiveness.
  • The team at Lambeth Palace works closely and collaboratively, providing assistance across portfolio areas at times when extra capacity is needed. As such, an important part of this role will be to join the wider ‘pool’ of administrative support helping out other team areas as required and as capacity allows.
  • All employees working at Lambeth Palace share responsibility to promote and maintain a strong safeguarding culture with regard to children and vulnerable adults, including identifying the key actions they should take given their role and responsibilities.

The Requirements



  • Good at and enjoys administrative and logistical tasks, with strong planning and organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Works well to deadlines.
  • A positive, proactive attitude to all tasks.
  • Excellent communicator in writing and verbally.
  • Strong IT skills – in particular Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work comfortably with competing priorities and to re-prioritise work when required, use problem solving skills to deal with issues if they arise.
  • A team player, able to work well both within a team and individually.
  • Comfortable communicating with senior colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Flexibility to work across various department activities.
  • Comfortable handling and analysing confidential and often complex data.


  • Experience of planning and organising activities and/or events which support project work using software from the Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience of administrative duties as well as contributing ideas to improve the efficiency of processes/work.
  • Experience of presentation creation using Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel for updating budget information.
  • Experience of dealing with customers/stakeholders.
  • Experience of working with highly confidential documents (using and storing).


  • GCSE Maths and English or equivalent.
  • ‘A’ Levels or equivalent.



  • Use of Zoom to support the delivery of on-line events and modules.
  • Use of MS Project and SurveyMonkey (or other on-line questionnaire/survey software).
  • Interested in the subjects of social care, family life to include wellbeing of children and young people, couple relationships, conflict resolution and public policy more broadly.
  • Interested in own personal learning and development.
  • An empathy with the mission of the Church of England and Christian values.


  • Whilst the NCIs are committed to wellbeing and work/life balance, a willingness and availability to work outside normal office hours including weekends is required, on occasion, as well as travel within England and overseas.
