The Bishop of Southwark and the Crown are looking to appoint a Vicar at St Anne, Kew

St Anne’s is a welcoming church of historic significance, a Crown living adjacent to the entrance of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, a World Heritage Site that forms part of our parish. It has an engaged and committed congregation drawn from across Kew and parts of west London whose worship is firmly based in the eucharistic tradition.

The parish, patron and bishop are prayerfully seeking a priest who has the vision, ambition, energy, and communication skills necessary to work collaboratively with the congregation and across the community and Diocese, and will:

  • be committed to excellence in sacramental worship, music and preaching
  • guide, support, encourage and lead the church community as it develops more adventurous and relevant expressions of faith
  • be eager to support and develop a thriving ministry to children and young people
  • encourage and nurture leadership and gifts amongst the laity
  • bring a strong emphasis to the pastoral aspects of priestly vocation and develop a lay-led pastoral support team
  • promote and deepen positive links with The Queen’s School which has long-standing and strong connections with our church
  • continue and further strengthen our relationships with local churches and schools, the Royal Botanic Gardens and community organisations
  • work to increase St Anne’s outreach and deepen its commitment to Social and Climate Justice and contemporary issues
  • collaborate with the PCC and congregation to develop a strategic long-term Mission Action Plan.

The ideal candidate

• An individual of deep personal spirituality, with a natural sense of pastoral sensitivity.

• A collaborative, enabling personal style, sharing ministry with laity.

• High energy and a strong work ethic.

• Ambitious for the work of the church across our whole community, both within and outside the church.

• Committed to managing change.

• A profound and reflective thinker who can apply Christian teaching to the secular and personal challenges of contemporary life.

We are an inclusive church that welcomes everyone at all stages of their faith journey. The church building offers a sacred and beautiful space for prayer and contemplation, and promotes a sense of reverence through its services and music.

Since its inauguration as a small chapel in 1714 our church has played a vital part in the development of Kew. It is a Crown living, and its rich history of royal patronage, local dignitaries, artists and parishioners is commemorated in memorials throughout the
church and churchyard. Today the quiet formality, distinctive liturgical style and rich musical tradition of our church continues to attract a thriving, creative and committed congregation.

The current vicarage is in the process of being sold, see the letter from the archeacon for further details.
