Longton
Office Holder

St Andrew’s serves the large village of Longton, south of Preston, which has a population of just over 7000. It is a settled community with good transport links and a place that many families find to be a good place to bring up children. It is home to Hutton Grammar, a Church of England boys’ comprehensive school. The Parish has a strong Eucharistic tradition and sets a high standard in its worship. There are a good number of able lay leaders which means that the Parish has flourished during the vacancy and has been able to address a range of long-term issues. The Parish is now ready to welcome an incumbent who can lead them into growth in line with the priorities of Vision 2026.

The candidate will:

Use the enthusiasm and gifts of lay people to lead the parish into growth, especially by strengthening its ministry to children, families and young people.

Delight in the liturgical, choral and eucharistic traditions of the parish whilst finding new ways to develop their worshipping life

Develop a strong pastoral presence within the parish, building good relationships within and beyond the congregation.

Address honestly and confidently the financial issues faced by the parish and work with the PCC to increase giving and income generation,

Build strong links with schools in the parish and especially with Hutton Grammar School

Play a full part in Deanery and Diocesan life

The candidate will:

Take seriously their own life of prayer and attend to their growth in faith.

Delight in sharing their faith with others and be a clear and confident preacher and communicator.

Enjoy ministry to children and schools and be willing to play a key part in the life of a Church of England secondary school

Be able to articulate a vision for growth and be skilful in developing the gifts of lay leaders in implementing it

Be able to apply their faith to issues within and beyond the Parish and so expand the vision and outreach of the Parish.
