Shipdham
Office Holder

This is a new post held in two parts: Team Vicar covering the parishes of Shipdham and Bradenham and Schools’ Worker/Chaplain, within the Dereham & District Team Ministry, in the centre of Norfolk. This post has been created by the Diocese to under-pin our mission focus and a commitment of the Diocese to invest resources in this benefice. The Benefice comprises seven parishes (eight churches) in the centre of Norfolk and is served by a Team Rector and two Team Vicars. There are 13 schools across the benefice, including two secondary schools. Some of these schools have little or no church connection at present. We are hoping for a witness to the life and death of Jesus, a priest who is be able to testify that the Lord is good with a life that is shaped by the teaching of Jesus and a deep sense of call. If you are this person, and you model attractive faith in a relational way, we would be glad to meet with you.

  • To extend the churches’ reach to the community
  • To develop greater opportunities for teaching and discipling
  • To encourage the participation of the laity as widely as possible
  • To be the public face of the schools in Dereham
  • To develop worship appropriate for young people in the life of the benefice and enable others to do so too
  • To develop ministry to and among young people and children in the benefice and its schools, and provide pastoral care and support to them and to the school staff where asked

We seek a person who is able to embrace the breadth of churchmanship within the congregations.

S/he should:

  • Be able to manage their own time between parish, schools and family life
  • Be a good listener with pastoral skills, being able to relate with compassion, understanding and a sense of humour
  • Demonstrate management and pastoral skills, being able to relate with compassion, understanding and a sense of humour to people of all ages
  • Be enthusiastic about the role of music in worship and prepared to support our choir at Bradenham
  • Be prayerful and capable of encouraging others in their spiritual development and prayerful life
  • Lead both churches towards more active and imaginative forms of outreach and mission within the local community and in partnership with other local churches
  • Embrace fully village life as a visible presence
  • Be mindful that behind village idyll there often lies loneliness and isolation
  • Embrace collaborative working across the benefice and beyond
  • A willingness to learn and embrace the worshipping tradition of the different parishes, genuinely seeking to enable others to worship through them will be very fulfilling. The Team Rector would do all he can to support and encourage any candidate who was unsure of any particular tradition
