The Bishop of Southwark wishesto appoint a

Vicar for the United Benefice
Upper Tooting, Holy Trinity with St Augustine

We are seeking a prayerful parish priest who will enable us to embrace fully the new chapter that God is calling us to, discerning the opportunities and grasping the challenges, and who:

  • will be energised by leading and growing two churches
  • has the ability to develop a ministry team and the leadership and faith of others
  • will inspire, encourage, and draw out the best in others, embracing the rich variety of talents and resource across the benefice
  • is a warm and approachable pastor, able to engage easily with people of all ages and from a range of backgrounds
  • has the vision and experience to develop mission and ministry among children and young families
  • will enjoy living and working in a diverse part of London, embracing, and developing the commitment to community engagement

Who has a proven capacity to exercise appropriate leadership and management and has an
understanding of:

  • Team leadership
  • Working co-operatively with other clergy and the laity
  • Working in and with diverse communities
  • The role and use of social media in growing a modern parish

Members of our two congregations have said that they would like someone who is:

  • Warm and approachable
  • Enthusiastic and energetic
  • A good communicator
  • Non-judgmental and understanding of others
  • And has a sense of humour

The Benefice has two distinct churches who work well together. The demographics of the
churches and their neighbourhoods are different, although their worship patterns and
traditions are very similar.

What we have to offer:

  • A commitment to support and work with our new incumbent to enable the incumbent, the parishes and the United Benefice to flourish.
  • An opportunity to lead and take forward collaborative ministry with the laity.
  • Two diverse multicultural congregations.
  • A core group of laity willing to give generously of both their time and talents.
  • Well cared for buildings which are an important resource in both parishes.
  • Two churches with relatively stable finances supported by income from the letting of
  • their halls.

We off a large and attractive refurbished vicarage in a pleasant part of South West London
with good transport links. Holy Trinity owns a house (a legacy inheritance), which gives an opportunity for the Benefice to become a training parish for a curate, or to house or fund other staff. There is administrative support in place to allow our new incumbent to focus on developing and doing God’s work in the parishes
