We are seeking a Lead Community Engagement Adviser to provide support and enable churches to work collaboratively and creatively within their neighbourhoods on community action at a time of great flux, with the opportunity to show care for others and share in signs of God’s emerging new creation.

Applicants must have hands-on experience of planning, leading, managing and creating community engagement initiatives. You must have proven experience of developing new projects, building teams and securing funding for projects, with an understanding of, and vision for, the flourishing of the Church’s presence in, and service to, our communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Help churches listen astutely and respond imaginatively to local social issues and be involved with diocesan campaigns and national initiatives.
  2. Develop useful relationships with statutory and third sector agencies, local support groups and other key stakeholders, and build and maintain positive relationships with the Bishop, Archdeacons, clergy and lay leaders in the diocese

Candidates must have excellent communication and organisation skills and demonstrate success in planning and managing projects. The role will require candidates to travel throughout the diocese, often in the evenings and at weekends.

The post holder will, at times, be the public face of the Diocese. It is considered that there is an Occupational Requirement (Equality Act 2010) for the postholder to be a communicant member of the Church of England, or of a Church in communion therewith or of a member Church of the Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland or of Churches Together in England, or of a member Church of the Evangelical Alliance.
