St John's, Plumstead (St John with St James and St Paul) is in South East London, in the Borough of Greenwich and the Diocese of Southwark.

The church's aims of meeting with God and each other, receiving from God and each other and giving to God and each other are nurtured by:

  • Promoting a relaxed and accessible style of worship
  • Encouraging ongoing renewal in our individual and corporate life
  • Shared ministry and small group system

Currently there is one service each Sunday (usually All Age) with between 40-100 adults as well as up to 40 children attending. More information about the style of the services in the profile.

The closing date is 15 September with interviews on Tuesday 5th October (in the Diocesan Office, Trinity House, Trinity House, 4 Chapel Court,Borough High Street, London SE1 1HW). Short listed candidates will be invited to visit Plumstead on Thursday 30th September.

In response to the question 'What do we need to be a more healthy and faithful church?' St John's answered:

  • to welcome more people in our community to our place of worship and strengthen pastoral groups.
  • to be a more loving and open church that welcomes everyone, promoting multi-cultural and diversity.
  • to be a church where more young people want to come and more family oriented.
  • to encourage more participation of church members in evangelising, the use of spiritual gifts and dedication to Christ.

In the next five years St John's would hope to start or strengthen these ministries:

  • Build youth programme
  • Community/Online outreach
  • More family activities
  • Bible studies/Classes exploring spirituality
  • Strengthen the music programme

and be a motivating, enthusiastic and vibrant church, integral to the community.

Our next Vicar will

  • have a pastoral heart ,who is compassionate, loves and deeply cares for people
  • be friendly, caring and a loving personality, with a good sense of humour
