Chaplain

ICS seeks an experienced evangelical priest to lead our international church serving English speakers in and around the vibrant city of Basel in the heart of Europe. Our membership comprises over 35 nationalities, ranging from long-established residents to temporary: from an Anglican to free-church background. ACB has a wide socio-economic spread with many employed in large multi-national companies. We enjoy being a diverse community living in three different countries but all sharing in a common goal of making Jesus Christ known in our community. The new Chaplain needs well-developed pastoral and teaching skills and is at ease with both traditional and contemporary styles of worship. Our Ministry Team comprises three Assistant Chaplains, a Reader, a Children and Families’ Worker and Youth Pastor. An intermediate level of spoken German (B1) and beginner level of written German (A1) are required, unless the applicant holds Swiss/EU/Schengen passport or residency. Living Links As a church, we seek to listen to God and join in where He is already active by providing practical, prayerful and financial support to organisations who are responding to needs of the marginalised, safeguarding the integrity of creation and seeking to bring about the Kingdom of God on earth as in heaven.

We commit to being active across all areas defined by the five marks of Anglican mission:

• To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom

• To teach, baptise and nurture new believers

• To respond to human need by loving service

• To transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and pursue peace and reconciliation

• To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, and sustain and renew the life of the earth

We currently support the work of eight charitable organisations within the framework of our Outward Giving Policy. Supporting in Love:

✴ CMS Mission partner

✴ Busega (children’s organisation in Tanzania)

✴ ELIM (working with people on the fringes of society in Basel) ✴ OeSA (caring for asylum seekers in Basel)

Outward Giving:

✴ A Rocha (nature conservation project in the Lebanon)

✴ Release International (serving persecuted Christians)

✴ Moldova charity mission for the disabled

✴ Diocese of Byumba, Rwanda (in particular, Hannah Ministries)

In addition, 10% of the sum allocated to the Links is set aside for discretionary use in support of relief efforts in emergency situations worldwide. Our Living Links team works hard to raise the profile of the organisations we support within the congregation by communicating regular updates and prayer points, as well as coordinating the financial support we give as a church. 10% of ACB’s income is donated to our Living Links. We seek to engage especially deeply with a selection of these organisations (our "Supporting in Love" Living Links - see below attachments), providing practical support wherever possible and inviting them to give occasional presentations at services. For example, a number of ACB members regularly volunteer their time to serve at the ELIM café.
