North Walsham
Office Holder

As a Benefice we are praying for our churches to be lively, growing places where everyone, of all ages, can know and respond to the love of God and accept Him into their lives, being involved in prayer, service, caring and giving.

As we seek to appoint a Priest In Charge to the Benefice, we are looking for someone who will be guided by the Holy Spirit to preach the Gospel, care, nurture and develop the worshipping congregations, and serve and welcome all who live in the surrounding communities.

We need someone:

  • Who will respect, care for and nurture the existing congregation
  • Who will be patient, approachable, caring and a good listener
  • Who will understand and accommodate the need for maintaining familiar forms of worship and music
  • Who will boost and encourage young people’s work to share the message of God’s love to families, and open up worship and activities in exciting and easily accessible ways
  • Who will encourage and lead lay members of the congregation, and those coming to the Christian life, to find discipleship roles at all levels of Christian ministry
  • Who will build on the existing partnership between the Benefice churches, and within Churches Together in North Walsham
  • Who will build on the links with civic and voluntary organisations in the town, as the Civic Parish Church.

We can offer:

  • A warm welcome to the person God sends to be our new Incumbent!
  • A cohesive and faithful Ministry Team
  • Prayerful support from the church families of all the churches of the Benefice
  • An enthusiasm to grow in our faith and expand our ministry
  • The desire to reach out to our communities
  • PCCs who are keen to serve their church and Ministers
  • A spacious four bedroomed vicarage in North Walsham in the beautiful county of Norfolk with access to countryside, coast, the Norfolk Broads and the city of Norwich

Diocese and Deanery

Under the leadership of the Bishop of Norwich, the Rt Revd Graham Usher, a vision is emerging for the Diocese – Transformed by Christ: Prayerfully, Pastorally and Prophetically - https://www.dioceseofnorwich.org/about/vision-priorities/ . Work is currently underway on the strategies that will help us live out and deliver this vision.

Bishop Graham has written an Ethos and Culture Statement, available on the diocesan website - https://www.dioceseofnorwich.org/app/uploads/2020/12/Our-Life-Together-2021.pdf - which gives details of our structures and the character of the Diocese.

The benefice of North Walsham falls within the Archdeaconry of Norfolk, and so under the care of the Bishop of Thetford (The Rt Revd Dr Alan Winton) and the Archdeacon of Norfolk (The Venerable Steven Betts). The benefice is in the St Benet at Waxham and Tunstead deanery whose Rural Dean is The Revd Canon Catherine Dobson, Rector of the Coastal Group of Parishes. There are 8 posts of incumbent status in the Deanery, along with 1 Assistant Curate, 1 OLM Curate and 1 NSM Curate, 7 Licensed Lay Ministers (Readers) and a number of PTO clergy and LLMs, and Authorised Worship Assistants.
