Office Holder

Priest-in-Charge for the newly linked parishes of Istead Rise and Southfleet (Cobham Deanery)

RE-POSTING: Previous applicants need not apply

These neighbouring parishes find themselves both in vacancy, and although this joint appointment had not originally been part of a longer-term plan, there has been a warm welcome of the opportunities afforded for the two churches in relating more, sharing more and engaging in mission & ministry in the local churches and communities.

We are seeking a full-time parish priest to enthusiastically lead our two church families of St Nicholas Southfleet and St Barnabas Istead Rise as we seek to work together, engage with young people and families, encourage the laity and grow God’s church in this part of His kingdom.

is a pastoral and prayer-led individual who:

Can lead a variety of worship styles;

Will encourage people in their Christian journey and is happy to engage with individuals and groups of any age or background;

Is keen to develop ministry for children and young people;

Will help church members identify their own gifts for lay ministry;

Will inspire us to work together in a way that puts our churches at the very heart of our local communities.

St Barnabas Istead Rise has a vision for "Making Jesus Known". We long to see God's kingdom come through all we are and all we do. The parish (which is purely residential) is located just south of the A2 at Gravesend, surrounded by fields and farmland, and has a population of approx. 3,800. The original church (now used the Hall) was built in 1961, and a new, modern worship centre was opened in 2004.

St Nicholas Southfleet has a mission to be an "all welcoming, all inclusive community that will support you in developing your relationship with Jesus Christ". This rural parish, which is around 2.5 miles from Istead Rise, has a population of around 7,600. The church is located in the centre of the village and part of the building dates back to the 14th Century.

The Vicarage is a spacious, 4-bedroomed property built in the 1970s and located at the rear of St Barnabas Church.

Please see the two Profiles prepared by the PCC for further details.
