This is a post which offers both challenge and opportunity. The most obvious challenge is to help the churches grow younger and more diverse in their membership. There are good foundations upon which to build with a core of very committed and able laity to help and excellent church facilities for community engagement.

We are looking for someone who…

  • will encourage outreach, finding ways to use our new facilities to reach as many in our communities as possible.
  • be grounded in prayer and help us grow spiritually.
  • will lead in fostering discipleship with particular emphasis on youth and be willing to engage with the schools in the benefice.
  • is lively with a good sense of humour.

We can offer you...

  • the support of a Reader and retired priest to help lead services.
  • A whole host of enthusiastic volunteers who assist in weekly worship, lead prayers, run prayer groups as well as organise a rich variety of social events. They are even prepared to paint the church railings!
  • Days off and holiday entitlement will be supported by the ministry team and readers.
  • Reimbursement of expenses promptly and regularly.
  • Administrative support via PCC officers and eventually a part time paid administrator at St Johns. In addition, there is an active, committed group of experienced volunteers to support elected officers.

Financial support for an annual retreat and time for on-going training.

About the Diocese

Lichfield Diocese is one of the most diverse dioceses in the country. Rolling countryside and vibrant inner-city life nestle together in a region that takes in Staffordshire, the Potteries of Stoke-on-Trent, most of Shropshire and bustling Black Country centres including Walsall and Wolverhampton. The only thing we don’t have is the sea!

Our shared diocesan vision extends an invitation to all to “Come follow Christ in the footsteps of St Chad”.

As we follow Christ in the footsteps of St Chad, we pray that the two million people in our diocese encounter a church that is confident in the gospel, knows and loves its communities, and is excited to find God at work already in the world. We pray for a church that reflects the richness and variety of those communities and partners with others in seeking the common good, working for justice as a people of hope.
