Office Holder

We’re looking for a Planting Curate! Preston Minster is a vibrant church in the centre of Preston, planted from Holy Trinity Brompton in London. We are absolutely convinced that Jesus is good news for every single person in Preston. We aim to be a church that offers a big welcome and a safe space to explore and encounter the person of Jesus Christ.

Role Context

The Vision of Preston Minster is “to play our part in the re-evangelisation of the nation, the revitalisation of the church, and the transformation of society”

At Preston Minster, we seek to achieve this vision by leading people through a simple process. This process helps people find their home, find their purpose, and transform their city.

Find your Home: Alpha & Sunday’s are where we invite everyone to explore finding their home in Jesus.

Find your Purpose: Groups are where we join with others in finding our purpose and commit to intentional growth.

Transform your City: Teams are where we actively serve the church and transform our city in Jesus name.

We also seek to bring transformation through our church planting strategy, employing a stream of planting curates who spend 2 to 3 years at Preston Minster before planting a church in or beyond Preston. We consider it a huge success to send members of our congregation with planting curates to plant new churches.

Ministry philosophy

Upfront and central at Preston Minster is our desire to reach those who don’t know Jesus. This means we place a special emphasis on making sure our outward-facing events are not only relevant to non-Christians but also comfortable for non-Christians. It is imperative that any potential clergy member not only understands this approach but embraces it wholeheartedly.

Role Purpose

The purpose of the role is to:

  • Prepare to lead a church plant from Preston Minster to revitalise an existing parish within the Diocese of Blackburn.
  • To fulfil the requirements necessary to equip the curate for stipendiary ministry in the Church of England.

Role Description

Team members at Preston Minster are called to be flexible. Part of your role will be to hold a ministry portfolio decided before your appointment dependant on the needs of the church, your background and experience. Team members are expected to be actively involved in the life of Preston Minster beyond their ministry area. A commitment to this is vital. You will find yourself serving beyond your role to help people find their home, find their purpose and transform their city.

A key aspect of all roles at Preston Minster is team recruitment, development and management. You will become a talent scout seeking to build an exceptional team in the area you serve.

Ideal Candidate - (additional to the national selection & formation criteria for ordained ministry)

  • A track record of innovation
  • An ability to communicate the gospel to those outside the church.
  • An ability to release and equip others, identifying and investing in leaders.
  • Self-motivated
  • Maturity and robustness for the planting context
  • Discernible signs of a calling to church planting

Working Environment

At Preston Minster, we have built a can-do environment where innovation and creativity are encouraged alongside serving others. Our staff community is warm and engaging with lifelong relationships being built.

Preston Minster is a growth-oriented environment where we set a culture of excellence in everything we do. Team members go above and beyond to move the church towards its vision and help people find their home, find their purpose and transform the city.
