DIOCESE OF SOUTHWARK

St Paul’s Streatham in the Furzedown Team Ministry

Team Vicar (House for Duty/Self Supporting)

The role will involve leading the church in reflection and renewal at a critical stage in its life, and, in particular, reviewing and renewing the Mission Action Plan in a post-COVID world. The new Team Vicar will work with the congregation to develop a strategy to reach out to the whole parish and develop worship services, retaining their traditional feel to feed & nurture current members whilst also finding new ways to attract new members to join the church, in particular children and young families. The role will involve working with colleagues in the other Furzedown churches to reach out to the community with the Good News as well as getting to know church members well and making pastoral visiting a priority as time permits. The Team Vicar will encourage volunteering and oversee the ministries of the Reader and Pastoral Assistant, sharing ministry with others in the church and delegating appropriately.

The ideal candidate will be a person of clear and confident Christian faith and conviction, steeped in Scripture, prayerful, and with the ability to help people grow in faith, hope and love. Be a person who loves God and people deeply and can relate well across all age groups, social & ethnic backgrounds, and stages of faith. Be dynamic, energetic, realistic, positive, flexible, and adaptable, a good and faithful preacher and teacher of the word, thoughtful and engaging. He or she should have a love for traditional, liturgical and eucharistic worship, and be able to lead services with dignity, reverence, and joy. Have a vision for the growth of the church and the extension of the kingdom, able to feel at home with people who are not yet Christians or members of the church, being gifted in relating to young families and able to draw them into the life of the church. Be organised administratively with good communication skills and be eager to share the responsibility of ministry with others, to delegate, and to identity and develop the gifts of others so that all may play their part in the life of the church and the work of the kingdom.

The parish is located in Furzedown, nestled between Tooting and Streatham in SW London with a population of c7,500. St Paul’s is a diverse church of central churchmanship, with a love for Biblical preaching and weekly eucharistic worship. It is a small church with a desire to grow, particularly among children and young families. Being part of the Furzedown Team Ministry with two evangelical Anglican churches, and the Furzedown Churches Covenant with the local Baptist church, provides ministry support and collaboration in local mission. The mission strap line is: ‘Knowing & Sharing God’s Love’ and the church website can be found at www.stpaulfurzedown.org.uk
