Rector for the Parish of Finchampstead & California, Wokingham, Berkshire

We seek a visionary leader for this large and vibrant parish.

We are enthusiastic about the Gospel and sharing our faith.  A strong, effective, well-resourced and resourceful parish incorporating three churches.  We embrace people of all ages, stages and backgrounds within an atmosphere of joy, creativity, friendship and love.  We are looking for a Rector who is rooted in the Lord Jesus Christ and in prayer, and has the courage and imagination to lead us in outreach and transformation in the lives of the community.
If this sounds like you, please read on.

As the Bishop of Reading says in the introduction to the profile: "Finchampstead and California with St Eligius is a parish which is serious about faith, serious about mission, serious about outreach and pastoral care, serious about teaching, nurturing and resourcing individual Christians to live out the Gospel in their lives.  But lest this sound too serious, it is a place of joy, laughter, creativity, friendship and love.  A parish which embraces people of all ages and stages, backgrounds and starting points – diverse and inclusive in all it offers."

We seek someone who:

Can lead a complex parish with grace, confidence and clarity, working collaboratively with the Ministry Team, staff and volunteers

Is energised by mission and will relish the challenge and opportunities that the development of new communities in our parish provides

Will embrace and build on the diversity of worship, churchmanship and theology in our parish

Is an enthusiastic representative of God as an enquiring teacher, preacher and pastoral leader focused on developing discipleship and a growing, living faith

Intentionally looks to see where God is at work and seeks partnerships with others in local schools, the community and other churches.

Has a love for all people, whatever their situation or lifestyle.

• Ordained priest within the Church of England, or a Church in communion with it, or a Church whose orders it recognises
• Have satisfactorily completed Initial Ministerial Education

• Engagement with and pastoral support for people of all ages
• Priestly ministry involving vision setting and team development
• Responsibility in a complex organisation with substantial resources to manage

• Leading mature and thoughtful all age worship
• Experience of doing forms of church in creative, engaging and imaginative ways across a range of styles and contexts
• Active engagement with local schools

Together as a Diocese we are engaged on a journey towards a Common Vision of what it means to be a Christ-like Church, and what we are therefore called to do together.  In the episcopal area of Reading, and the Diocese of Oxford, we are serious about our common vision and vocation – to be a more Christ-like Church for the sake of God’s world – more contemplative, more compassionate and more courageous.
