Vicar, Christ Church Surbiton Hill with Emmanuel Tolworth
We are looking for a new vicar to lead our church with vision and insight so as to care for our congregation and reach our community for Christ.
We are a local, intergenerational, evangelical and moderately charismatic Anglican church in southwest London, and are looking for a vicar with the character and calling to lead us forward to a new, significant chapter of our church’s life.
Our Vision and Values
We are committed to biblical orthodoxy and are on a journey of exploring the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
Our purpose is to equip our family to become whole-life disciples of Christ. Therefore we
prioritise the place of faithful Bible teaching, worship and prayer as the basis of everything
we do across the life of our church. Together we are committed to becoming more like
Jesus, serving each other and our community, and sharing with others the good news of the gospel.
We are looking for someone who will:
We are looking for someone who:
• Loves the Lord – as shown in life, ministry and a pattern of prayer and daily devotions
• Loves His Word – is committed to the full inspiration and final authority of the Bible in
belief and ethical practice and is able to show its application in the lives of God’s people
• Loves His Spirit – expectant and experienced in encouraging the gifts of the
Holy Spirit in the church today
• Loves His people – willing to commit to the congregation and our wider community,
ministering practically and spiritually to the needs of all
• Loves the lost – a heart for leading people to the Lord, and for
Christ Church Surbiton Hill is a medium-sized local church in the evangelical tradition with a gently growing charismatic influence. We have close local relationships, including with our linked school Christ Church CE Primary School, and alongside a committed core congregation we have many opportunities to welcome new people – the challenge being to help them come to a real and deepening faith in Christ Jesus.
We are a church of all ages, with two Sunday services. On Sunday morning, attendance is around 165 and includes very active and popular children’s groups. Midweek we have a good variety of small groups and other meetings, and we run a number of courses and popular events through the year. Around 40 of us attend the New Wine conference each summer. We work closely with a variety of mission and social action partnerships, both locally and overseas.
We have recently completed a major building project to renew and restore the worship
area and create new offices and additional space for our youth and children’s work. It makes this an exciting time to be joining the church as we seek to maximise our use of this space – despite the challenging immediate circumstances with coronavirus and its aftermath!
Our daughter church Emmanuel Tolworth is a conservative evangelical church located in the eastern part of the parish. We operate independently day to day.
Closing Date for applications: 12th November
Interviews: 13th January
