Vicar of St Alkmund's, Derby

40 Kedleston Rd, Darley Abbey, Derby

St Alkmund’s is an evangelical, charismatic, multigenerational gathered congregation in Derby. We have a large worship team/band and our worship is Holy Spirit led. Our services can be formal, informal and creative and we follow several forms of liturgy.

We are seeking a Vicar who will help us lead the ministry for a changing church. God is inspiring us to begin to reimagine mission in Derby .

As we emerge from Covid we are looking to build on our relationships with local churches as we develop a Minster/Hub and Spoke Model supported by the Deanery. In this next season we plan to use our large church building to enable people to meet with others and meet with God. We are proposing to use the space for socially distanced Church services and an informal Community Café to minister to the parish and the wider community.

Derby is a city of 230,000 located in the East Midlands, famous for our engineering industry and the beautiful Peak District on our doorstep. We are a city centre parish and are part of Derby City Deanery. The parish has a population of 5,900 and its deprivation index is high (Index of Multiple Deprivation 21.1%) but this masks a mixed picture indicated in our Parish Profile.

We have a Sunday morning service in church (restarting in Oct 2020) and an online service as well as several Community Groups (currently meeting on Zoom) and a pattern of midweek ministries.

We are looking for an experienced priest who will lead us forward in the next phase of our mission and

  • Build on the relationships with local churches to develop the Minster/Hub and Spoke Model
  • Encourage the congregation in their vocations as we develop our proposal to use the building to meet with others and meet with God
  • Establish regular meetings with the existing staff and leadership – to encourage and develop them in fulfilling their calling
  • An experienced ordained priest within the Church of England who is committed to grow in their personal discipleship
  • A leader who is a team player within our own church and able to work collaboratively with leaders within the Deanery and City Vision
  • A pastoral person with a passion to get alongside others to encourage their vocations, disciple and develop their gifts and support us in fulfilling our calling
  • A preacher and teacher who will help us develop a deeper understanding of God’s word
  • Someone who will bring further integration to our multigenerational church family
  • Someone with an outward focus who will challenge us to be a real and tangible presence in our community
