We are a welcoming and active benefice, situated 12 miles from Oxford and 5 miles from Bicester in beautiful countryside.   Our new Team Vicar will join us at a key time, as we reach out with the gospel to our communities, new and old. Will you join us on our walk as disciples of Jesus in our mission?

Our benefice is made up of seven church communities: the rural villages of Ardley with Fewcott, Fritwell, Lower Heyford with Caulcott, Somerton, Souldern and Upper Heyford and the growing housing development known as Heyford Park.  Transport links are good as junction 10 of the M40 is within the Benefice and there are rail stations at Heyford which connects to Banbury, and trains from Bicester arrive in London after 45 minutes. Our congregations have their own distinctive styles of worship from traditional Anglican to informal Evangelical.  We value this rich diversity within our benefice, and we are seeking a Team Vicar who is comfortable with both traditional and contemporary worship.

We would like to see growth in all the congregations across our benefice through reaching out to new and existing residents with the good news of Jesus Christ. The significant increase in housing on Heyford Park offers considerable opportunity for the Benefice to reach out creatively as the community evolves and develops.

During the Covid-19 lockdown our clergy team and congregations have worked to develop on-line worship, prayer and fellowship.   The Benefice will be looking at lessons learn from lockdown and developing future ministry accordingly, drawing on the skills and gifting of clergy and laity alike.

In a new colleague we are seeking a prayerful priest who:

  • is able to offer and develop a pastoral presence across the Benefice.
  • wants to be part of and contribute to a collaborative team.
  • enjoys leading worship in a variety of styles and contexts.
  • appreciates the lifestyle and ministry offered by rural parishes.
  • is an excellent, timely and reliable communicator, including familiarity with IT.
  • observes safeguarding and other Benefice protocols.
  • Is able to give two days per week plus Sundays.

Areas of ministry will depend on the successful applicant’s individual strengths and aspirations, and how those fit with the gifts of the existing team.

These are some of the areas we are looking to develop:

  • Furthering the vision of the Benefice.
  • Nurturing faith and discipleship.
  • Developing new aspects of ministry.
  • Fostering relationships through community engagement.

We are not expecting a new colleague to arrive with expertise in all of these areas but hope this gives an indication of the potential of the role.

  • Together, we work with God and with others for the common good in every place in one of the great crossroads of the world.
  • Together, we are called to proclaim the Christian faith afresh in this generation with joy and hope and love.
  • Together, we are called to dream dreams and see visions of what could be, and see those visions come to birth. [Taken from flourishing in Ministry booklet.}
