Our Finance and HR team lead by the Finance Director consisting of 6 employees are based in Edward King House, Lincoln. We are looking for a Management Accountant to cover Maternity leave on a 12 month fixed-term contract.

This is a great opportunity for someone to join our Finance team to provide support and guidance to our parishes, clergy, tenants and colleagues within the Lincoln Diocese. The finance office is a busy place to work and we are looking for someone who is able to plan their own and key finance colleagues workload.

This post will support the Finance Director in providing operational financial support to the diocesan team, parishes and tenants. This will involve leading and maintaining areas such as Parish Share contributions, monthly accounts, audit and one off projects. The ideal candidate will be able to problem solve and to deal with a variety of enquiries on a daily basis.

The Diocese of Lincoln is looking for a Management Accountant to join a close knit team which supports the Diocesan strategy of growth and its vision of ‘transforming lives in Greater Lincolnshire.’

The post holder will work closely with the Finance Director and supervise other colleagues on their day to day work and assist where necessary.

There will be a full induction and handover plan, working alongside the Management Accountant to ensure an understanding of the scope of work required.

Some of the main duties will include:

  • Production of accurate and well-presented management accounts, forecasts and variance analysis in line with defined timescales for review by the Director of Finance.
  • Preparing accurate and well-presented information for including within the annual budget cycle.
  • Preparing and reconciling all control and balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Overview of the Glebe accounts and finances – primary finance contact
  • Maintain control of Parish Share contributions including correspondence with relevant parties, chasing and supporting parishes in ensuring that parish share collection rates are increased.
  • Generate and send out monthly management reports to Budget holders and arrange to meet with Budget Holders to review their reports on a monthly/quarterly basis.
  • Developing and managing policies and procedures ensuring that the correct financial controls are in place.
  • Reviewing existing systems and keeping these up to date with changes in accounting practices.
  • Complete the VAT return for inspection by FD and reconcile
  • Assist with the production of the year end statutory accounts.
  • Oversea the purchase and sales ledger accounts.
  • Supervising colleagues on their day to day work and assisting where necessary
  • Dealing with customer and supplier queries on a daily basis and solving in a professional manner

Undertake such other reasonable duties as may be required from time to time that are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade. Keep accurate records of all daily transactions.

For this role should be able to demonstrate and have relevant experience to draw from to meet the following;

Qualifications & Skills

  • CCAB qualified/working towards a professional qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience of working both collaboratively and independently on a variety of projects at any one time
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written, face to face)
  • Experience of using financial software
  • Solid knowledge of financial and accounting procedures
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Knowledge of financial regulations


  • Appropriate experience in the area of finance and budgeting
  • Experience of working in a busy finance department
