St Mark’s vision is to help people come home to God. The themes of house and home run throughout Scripture, but a key verse for St Mark’s appears in Jesus’ parable of the great banquet in Luke 14:23: “Go out… and urge anyone you find to come in, that my house will be full.” St Mark’s seeks to be a family together coming home to God. It looks to be changed by God’s word, to live in the power of the Holy Spirit, and to be Christ’s hands and feet in its community.

St Mark’s prioritises the place of personal faith in the Lord Jesus, the centrality of evangelism and social action at home and abroad, the availability and use of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in worship and mission, all centred on the Person of Christ as revealed in the Scriptures, its guide in all matters of faith and practice.

St Mark’s is ready to embark on a new, significant chapter of our life, led by a Vicar who is full of faith, secure in themselves and in their convictions, and with the ability and appetite:

  • to lead in mission, locally and globally, with fresh insight
  • to develop with vision its growing community ministries – bridges between the church and the local area
  • to extend outreach through sensitive church planting
  • to utilise the regenerated old schoolhouse to expand reach into the community
  • to face the challenges of secularism and scepticism in inner-city London

St Mark’s is a large, lively, evangelical, charismatic church, a short walk from Clapham Junction, in the heart of a vibrant, diverse, and ever-changing inner-London community. Its three Sunday congregations together attract around 400 adults, 100 children and 40 youth each week, from Battersea and the surrounding areas of Earlsfield, Balham, Tooting and Streatham. Those who consider themselves members include over 500 adults and more than 200 children and youth.
