Bransholme St John

Being Vicar here will bring many challenges! Do you believe God can transform even the toughest of situations? If not, read no further!

Bransholme is a large outer estate parish of over 13,000 people in East Hull, with all the opportunities and difficulties that such places offer. We have a small but committed congregation who believe that God has great plans for us. We have major problems with our building and are looking to re-shape and renew it over the next 5 years.

Our community needs someone who will love them and be committed to them; our church needs this too plus a leader who can help us to realise all of the God-given opportunities around us. We are quite informal in the way we do church and are looking for a Vicar who can cope with a bit of chaos and uncertainty.

Our community needs someone who will love them and be committed to them; our church needs this too plus a leader who can help us to realise all of the God-given opportunities around us. We are quite informal in the way we do church and are looking for a Vicar who can cope with a bit of chaos and uncertainty.

The main responsibilities will include:

  • Bringing a style leadership to the church which envisions them for the future and enables them to believe that they are part of that future now
  • Demonstrating a commitment to mission and evangelism that enables the church to grow numerically
  • Loving and caring for the congregation and community, being an active presence in the parish
  • Deepening the prayer life of the church and their love for God
  • Offering leadership and direction to the building project
  • Developing the opportunities with families and show a commitment to engaging with the local schools
  • Being a collaborative colleague to others in the Group and the wider Deanery

Above all else, our ideal candidate will know that they are called by God to serve here. They will need to be spiritually, emotionally and physically robust - having a deep faith in God that will see them through the ‘ups and the downs’.

In particular we are looking for :

  • A Missional Outlook - we must grow our congregation and make the most of the many opportunities that surround us.
  • A Pastoral Heart - It’s not always easy living on Bransholme. We need a Vicar who will love the people here, both in the community and inside the church.
  • A Builder - we need someone who is ready to bring leadership to help us take on the challenges of our building project.
  • A Prayerful Minister - we are looking for a Minister who prioritises their life with God and looks to him in all things.

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS disclosure.

Unfortunately it is not always straightforward for clergy from overseas to be appointed to posts in the Church of England. The policy of the UK Border Agency is that normally the organisation making an appointment has been able to prove that it is impossible to appoint a person who is a national of a European Economic Area country, before a visa giving permission to work will be issued to a person who comes from elsewhere.

Closing date for applications: Monday 8 June, 2020

Interviews: To be confirmed.
