Vicar Christ Church Selly Park

This job has now expired
Selly Park Birmingham

Christ Church is a small parish in Moseley Deanery, located in south-west Birmingham along the main Pershore Road artery to the city. In area, the parish covers only about 0.3 sq. miles. The total population is about 5500 accommodated in around 2100 households.

The Parish is made up of a mixture of families, singles and sharing households, living in privately owned properties, the majority of which are owner occupied. Some of rented properties are used as student accommodation, although this is a declining feature of the neighbourhood, whilst others provide supported living facilities for adults who are deemed vulnerable by virtue of health problems or difficult life experiences. As a result of the nature of some households, there is a transient element within the population of the parish, and some of the people to whom we wish to show God’s love may live close to us only fleetingly.

We are seeking a vicar whose life and leadership spring from a deep and strong personal faith in Jesus.  Someone with an understanding of contemporary issues who is committed to the gospel, to personal prayer and is led by the Spirit.

Christ Church is an informal, evangelical, and undemonstratively charismatic church which encourages and values lay leadership and involvement in all its ministries. Everyone is encouraged to play their part, and most do. Christ Church is welcoming, friendly and down to earth. We are a church where it is possible to belong before believing and we seek to help and encourage all, wherever they are on their spiritual journey.

  • Engaging with many members either from other denominations or none, who have made Christ Church their home.
  • Continue to strengthen overseas mission links, and links at home with asylum seekers and refugees who we welcome and support.
  • Connect with our local community and other visitors through church organised ministries to young and old, and through community organised activities.
  • Working with other local churches to provide a CAP Debt Centre.
  • a heart for outreach and mission – helping us discover effective ways of sharing the gospel both inside and outside the church
  • a heart for God’s word – enabling the mature, the less mature, and those who are seeking, to explore the Bible and live out their growing faith in their Monday to Saturday lives
  • a heart for God’s Church – leading, enabling, encouraging and empowering women, men, young people and teams, to exercise the ministries that God has given them
  • a heart for people – compassionate, understanding and encouraging, accepting and valuing individuals including our children and young people and those on the fringe.

CPAS is an evangelical patron with patronage of nearly 700 churches.
