Upper Armley is a parish of less than 1 square mile in size that is almost half green space or undeveloped land; has 2 golf courses, a tennis club, a reservoir and a nature reserve; and is less than 3 miles from the bustling and vibrant metropolis that is Leeds City Centre. The parish stretches from the outer ring road (A6110) in the south west to the south bank of the river Aire.
Town Street runs across the middle of the parish with a range of shops towards the city centre end. These smaller outlets include “bargain-value” shops, newsagents, post office, takeaways, cafes, pubs, bookies, charity shops, pharmacy and hairdressers. The health centre is just inside our parish boundary while the One-stop shop & library are at the other end of Town Street.

Christ Church is an extremely diverse and multi-cultural congregation, reflecting our community. We have an average attendance of 65-75 adults and 15-20 children on a Sunday morning. We have a variety of morning worship services which are informal and inclusive in style. Services are based on Common Worship, and words are also displayed on screens at the front of church.

Worship is led by a music group, with occasional hymns played on the organ. The style of our worship is openly evangelical with a gently charismatic feel with robes and vestments worn for special services. All morning services are followed by fellowship over tea and coffee in the church narthex and there is an opportunity for those in need of prayer to receive this ministry.

Christ Church would love our new full-time minister to help us lead our church by providing support, education, encouragement and nourishment for growth and help us develop and refine our vision. Do you have the faith, drive and energy to help us write the next chapter in our history of service to the community and development of the faithful?

  • The spiritual development of existing members of the congregation through discipleship training and prayer.
  • Bringing in and including new believers in order that we can continue to be a parish that releases members of the laity into ministry.
  • Developing our work with young families and older people.
  • Continue our ministries through Meeting Point and Messy Church.

Our new leader will be one who encourages the congregation to bring new ideas that complement those already in place. Our congregation is open to change, and our new leader will be able to introduce ideas appropriately within such a diverse congregation. We are ready for our minister to be a good communicator and listener who takes the time to get to know people, finding out their individual and collective skills and supporting them as they put them to use. Our new minister will lead us forward into each mission priority within the perspective of the whole vision and within the availability of outreach resources.

They would ideally have the following characteristics:

a. Ability to help us shape and then to communicate our developing vision

b. Ability to help us prepare for and navigate change

c. Faithful biblical preacher and effective communicator of the gospel

d. Strong leader in evangelism and mission

e. Experience in and passion for growing youth and children’s ministry

f. Enthusiastic leader and enabler of worship

g. Experience of multi-cultural community and inclusion of the vulnerable

h. Experience in encouraging the gifts and skills of church members for leadership and ministry

i. Unafraid of fundraising for reordering and maintaining our building
