We are looking to appoint a new Chaplain to take a leading role in maintaining the distinctive Christian ethos of our school. The core purpose of this role is promoting and actively supporting all members of the school community in living out the school’s mission statement to.

  • To maintain, support, develop and enhance the Christian ethos of the school by;
  • Promoting and actively supporting all members of the school community in living out the school’s mission statement to‘Glorify God through outstanding, enjoyable education’
  • To assist the Leadership Team and RS department in preparing for Statutory Inspection of Anglican/Methodist Schools; and following up targets set.
  • To lead and development professional development on Christian ethos and Restorative Justice for staff and pupils
  • Organising and leading appropriate opportunities for Anglican worship, reflection, celebration, prayer and thanksgiving focussed on the name of the God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit
  • Supporting the school to be a witness to the local community and building new networks and partnerships alongside current ones

Key Accountabilities

Chapel environment

  • To oversee the use of the Chapel and ensure it is used for its spiritual purpose
  • To ensure the Chapel environment reflects the school’s ethos
  • To organise whole school Eucharist services and other acts of worship as appropriate, in the Chapel and elsewhere, including the Communion in the Community programme
  • To organise and prepare relevant service sheets
  • To research and produce resources for worship and reflection as required
  • To be responsible for the and administer the Chapel budget and ensure the Chapel is appropriately resourced

Assemblies and Mentor Meetings

  • To coordinate a system of daily acts of worship across the whole school
  • To monitor, advise and provide resources for school assemblies / Mentor meetings for Christian theological content
  • To provide Christian themes of the week for assemblies and mentor group sessions
  • To engage outside speakers



  • First degree or equivalent relevant qualification Ordained Anglican Priest
  • Evidence of appropriate professional or ministerial development


  • Evidence of appropriate professional or ministerial development



  • At least three years’ experience of ordained ministry
  • Experience of sustained and successful work with young people aged 11 – 18 years
  • Experience of nurturing young people in the Christian faith
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural community


  • Experience of developing worship with young people
  • Experience of working in the education sector
  • Experience of developing new initiatives in partnership with others

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Shows a clear and detailed understanding of what will be involved in addressing the key tasks in the job profile
  • Shows a clear vision for the role of all school support staff in underpinning teaching and learning
  • Demonstrates empathy with the school’s Ethos, Mission Statement and Aims

Saint Cecilia's Church of England School is a co-educational Church of England comprehensive academy for pupils aged 11-18 years in the Diocese of Southwark and the London Borough of Wandsworth, specialising in the teaching of music and mathematics.  The school opened in September 2003 with 150 pupils in Year 7, and grew year on year until reaching full capacity in 2009.  There are now 950 pupils on roll, including approximately 200 in the Sixth Form.
