St Martins House and Lodge offer high quality conferencing facilities and overnight accommodation in the centre of Leicester, right by Leicester Cathedral.  We’re looking for a Business Manager to build on the dynamic growth of recent years and to deliver good results year on year.

Overseeing a capable and recently expanded team, your main focus will be on driving new business.  Alongside the hospitality business you will also manage office lets and work closely with the Cathedral and diocesan office to ensure their hospitality needs are handled effectively and that the charitable aims of the business are delivered.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • To oversee and co-ordinate the work of the Managers of St Martins House and Lodge to ensure that all facilities are managed and maintained to the required standards and that on all occasions both external and internal customers’ expectations are met and whenever possible exceeded.
  • With the CEO to lead the process of completion and review of a Strategic Plan for SMH and SML and report against this on a quarterly time table.
  • In consultation with the Managers, to develop, agree and implement an annual operating plan to achieve the Strategic Plan.
  • In consultation with the Cathedral, to develop a Strategic Plan for Cathedral Gardens together with appropriate targets, monitoring and review.
  • To seek out and secure networking and other opportunities for business development and growth of revenue streams.
  • With the Director of Finance to prepare annual budgets, complete the monthly management reporting pack and attend the monthly review.
  • With the SMH Finance Group to develop, agree and implement an annual sales and marketing plan
  • To work with other Diocesan and Cathedral staff to ensure that SMH, SML and  Cathedral Gardens are operating within all applicable legislation and good practice, including but not limited to, Health and Safety, Hygiene, Fire, Personnel.

Person Specification:

  • Significant experience of general management and customer service delivery in the hotel and catering industry
  • Demonstrable knowledge, understanding and track record of sales and marketing and how to maximise business opportunities
  • Fully conversant with financial management of a business
  • People focussed, evidence of development of team members
  • Understanding of the environment in which the business operates
  • Outward going personality and not afraid to meet new people and make new contacts
  • Able to work in a complex environment with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrates empathy and understanding in the role
  • Understands, and is sympathetic to, the Christian ethos
