The Diocese of Rochester in partnership with St Marks Gillingham have an exciting new opportunity for a Community Missioner to oversee and support the establishment of café-style church; ‘Ignite’ and Gospel worshipping communities and lead the work of establishing a new family-friendly worshipping community. This post is funded for 5 years by the Church of England Strategic Development fund which supports major change projects which lead to a significant difference in mission and financial strength.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and grow thriving Messy Church worshipping communities across Gillingham
  • Form partnerships with local schools, offering Messy Church alongside Christian input into assemblies and lessons as appropriate
  • Support and oversee the establishment of ‘Ignite’ worshipping communities
  • Line manage, with regular oversight and reviews, the work of a Community Pastor and a Gospel Plant Leader
  • Recruit and train local church member volunteers to equip and encourage them to work with young people and marginalised communities
  • Nurture and develop a team of volunteer leaders and helpers to run and support new worshipping communities
  • Contribute to growing the church community, both spiritually and numerically

Candidates will have experience of growing a worshipping community, developing mutually beneficial partnerships with a variety of organisations and leading a small team.

Successful candidates should have:

  • A deep personal faith and ability to communicate it to others
  • Relevant theological knowledge and/or training
  • Experience of recruiting, training, overseeing and retaining volunteers

The post holder will, at times, be the public face of the church in North Kent, it is considered that there is a Occupational Requirement (OR) for the postholder to be a communicant member of the Church of England, or of a Church in communion therewith or of a member Church of the Council of Churches for Britain and Ireland or of Churches Together in England, or of a member Church of the Evangelical Alliance.
