We are currently looking for a Finance Assistant to join our small but busy team based at the Diocesan Office in Rochester.  The Finance Assistant will work closely with the Financial Controller to administer the Diocesan accounting functions to ensure that records of the financial transactions for all Diocesan funds are accurate and up to date. The Finance Assistant will also be involved in some aspects of the banking arrangements, general ledger processing and monthly/year-end reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the control of all accounting and accounts record systems
  • Assist with invoice processing, bank reconciliation, receipts and payment processing
  • Assist in producing the monthly management accounts and year-end financial statements including preparation of monthly journals, production of budget holders' reports, analysis of accounts, reconciliation and control of fund accounts
  • Prepare monthly payroll journals and recharges, produce payment instructions to Inland Revenue and reconciliation of all payments
  • Prepare weekly journals for Surveyors Order System, processing new orders and amendments and undertake monthly reconciliation to the accounting system.

The successful applicant should have a minimum of two years’ experience working in a similar role with a working knowledge of computerised accounting systems.  Some background within the charity or church sector would be useful. Excellent communication and organisation skills, attention to detail and the ability to work to deadlines are essential.
